Energy regulator hands oil giants discount worth billions to use Trans-Mountain pipeline
The decision means that Canadians will not recoup the $40 billion in public funds spent on the project during the 20 year lifespan of its oil shipping contracts, according to regulatory filings. After that point, Trans Mountain Corporation, the Crown Corporation that owns the pipeline, would have to negotiate new contracts or get another toll approved by the regulator.
