Tonight’s distraction: the least horror-centric version, but beautifully produced and a strong performance from Claude Raines as well as some genuinely lovely opera sequences. The 43 version doesn’t get enough love.

Absolutely. I honestly think, as written, the final version of the stage show got us the closest to Carrie in the book. What the directors do with that is entirely subjective. And SO MANY miss the point!

I think that’s the key though. You can show her having those thoughts & still get sympathy. Audiences can connect the dots. Anyone torn between two horrific environments at home and school with no escape is gonna have issues. But they were put upon her. She was made into a monster by her situation.

Debating whether it’s worth doing a costume this Halloween. Should I be lazy and just do a Spidey? I hate that my favorite month has been just flattened for me this year.

Today’s daily card draw was The Hermit and again, my god I felt that one. #tarot

How is it that the title song in the musical comes to closest to nailing that very concept of Carrie herself, which you’re right on. “If I could. I’d bring them all down to their knees, I’d make them sorry forever….” So many directors make her mousy. She’s not, she’s complicated.

Exactly. Margaret NEEDS to be terrifying and unhinged. One could argue Piper Laurie went a bit too far into camp and less terror, but she made bold choices with DePalma rather than play it safe. Subsequent film Margaret’s have all been too tame.

I am a Carrie purist and feel we still have yet to have a film that REALLY nails the novel (and the setting) properly, even DePalma (as great as that one, and the subsequent screen adaptations) have been. And now my hopes for this new one are dashed.

NH tends to give governors a few terms, it’s rare one of them gets just ones it’s also usually purple and if it’s a Republican in concord, the congressional seats typically go to Dems. Typically.

For me, 90s CGI forgiven, it’s the story itself. Because King wrote it the screenplay is faithful. Kubrick took way too many liberties for this book fan. Plus it’s filmed at the Stanley, where King stayed and had an experience that inspired the novel (they have props in the basement you can visit).

Prefer it to Kubrick. Yep. I said it!

Texan: The other day I bought ground beef and it was $25 for 3 lbs. That's wild to me. A lot of people right now are struggling with gas prices. The government has money for bombs and ballrooms but isn't working to make food more affordable.

WOW: This lifelong Republican says he’s finally had enough. The reason? AI data centers. “I’ve been a Republican my entire voting life. And I’ve been given the finger by my party.”
