Met with a student this morning who's convinced -- like, horror in his hollow eyes convinced -- we have 5 years before AI wipes us out. I did what I could to reassure the student, but if I'm being honest, they made a pretty convincing case. We had a good run, humanity.

In class today, my students asked how much I make in a year, so I told them -- their taxes pay my salary, after all, so it's only fair. They gasped. Just as I was about to apologize for my exorbitant income, they clarified that they thought I made more than twice that amount.
