We're in Hilo for the rest of the week helping out at the Pacific Tsunami Museum. It's across the street from Hilo Bay, where you can still see evidence of last month's #tsunami . We also set up a new Raspberry Shake seismograph in Mountain View and it recorded its first earthquake last night.

The debris line (high water mark) in Hilo Bay from the July 29, 2025 tsunami from Kamchatka, Russia.

An upgraded model to our portable STOMP device (ver. 2 on the left, ver. 1 on the right). The new model has a simple one-button operation and easier setup with reduced cabling.

Tsunami Advisories (offshore hazard alerts) remain in effect for Hawaii and parts of North America, and here's why: The tsunami is still active, just not as big, and can still cause weird rip currents and other marine hazards. During our visit to the Pacific Tsunami Museum last week we upgraded our prototype portable STOMP* device with new software. *Seismic Traces of Museum Patrons, a demonstration of recording earthquakes by stamping your feet on the floor; this portable version can travel to schools, libraries, etc.
