Nathan Mishler @nathan-cypher.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Google just announced testing one last week 020
Nathan Mishler @nathan-cypher.bsky.social · 07/10/2026@flowt.bsky.social Sorry! It's clear a lot of love and work went into Unbeatable and I applaud that. It just didn't really land for me because I had a hard time with rhythm games. Also I wished a lot of the Chapter 6 narrative was spread throughout instead of at the end. 110
Nathan Mishler @nathan-cypher.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Yeah this is in contrast with Unbeatable that I played right before that which I just completely hated 120
Nathan Mishler @nathan-cypher.bsky.social · 07/10/2026I am a chronic analyzer. Haha. I also loved the characters. I did not have a homelife like Cassandra's but I recognized that kind of parental suffocation from people I knew. So that spoke to me a lot. 120
Nathan Mishler @nathan-cypher.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Okay yeah I'm just upset about life in general so I'm going to scream. Devo. Mixtape starts with Devo. One of the most anti nostalgia, anti corporate, anti-conformist, 'wake up and do something' bands ever. How can you hear that and think "Yes, this game is just about things the creator likes." 000
Nathan Mishler @nathan-cypher.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Now that I am dual class developer/academic maybe I should start a video series about game analysis. 000
Nathan Mishler @nathan-cypher.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Also reflecting later. I am a HUGE Devo fan and starting the ENTIRE game with "That's good." is so telling to me. The underlying message is about maybe not wanting what other people want. So starting with THAT song and saying the game is about Nostalgia is... incongruent. The game is about yearning 110
Nathan Mishler @nathan-cypher.bsky.social · 07/10/2026To continue I personally feel like "Nostalgia" is a surface read, especially since the main character is literally trying to create a FORCED FUTURE nostalgia, because she's about to do something dumb that will likely fail and she's terrified despite bravado. Love to hear your take if you play. 210
Nathan Mishler @nathan-cypher.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Yeah, it's definitely a very white story. I recognized a lot of stuff in it but did not particularly feel Nostalgia. I mean, a lot of it is BAD. (The home lives of two of the protagonists, their future prospects, etc) I feel like a lot of people are mistaking setting for nostalgia. 110
Nathan Mishler @nathan-cypher.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Re: Nostalgia for a place you've never been. I saw people claim that Mixtape "expected you to love the PNW" while Stranger Things "Invited you in." And look. As someone from Indiana, Stranger Things got a LOT of stuff wrong, sometimes to a really annoying degree. Unclear why one gets a pass. 030
Nathan Mishler @nathan-cypher.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Mixtape. Loved it. Disagree with a lot of the haters. Including the claim "No American would know about Silverchair." As a teen from the 90s - if you watched MTV, you knew about Silverchair. I had no idea they were Australian. 231
Nathan Mishler @nathan-cypher.bsky.social · 04/10/2026I filled up a hole in the backyard does that count? 010
Nathan Mishler @nathan-cypher.bsky.social · 30/09/2026I was lucky to get my house before the jump. 010
Nathan Mishler @nathan-cypher.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Frustrated by that that I can be pretty mis-alligned with other people about what is "good." That can make me feel pretty disconnected, y'know? Not naming the game because a lot of work and passion obviously did go into it, and I think there are people the game is 'for.' So I hope it does well. 000
Nathan Mishler @nathan-cypher.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Sometimes I can't tell if I'm dumb or just have strong opinions. Maybe it's both. There's an IGF game where a bunch of people were pushing it as truly special so I played through it. I hated it. Like REALLY hated it. I try to be "Oh I see what artist was going for." And I kind of do, but ARGH 200
Nathan Mishler @nathan-cypher.bsky.social · 26/09/2026I’m glad you can lose your computer more often 120
Nathan Mishler @nathan-cypher.bsky.social · 23/09/2026I want students to think for themselves and KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING. 020
Nathan Mishler @nathan-cypher.bsky.social · 23/09/2026I've been banging a drum really hard about being anti AI. It literally makes people stupider. And yet I'm seeing talk about how coding tasks now take 1/10th the time (for experienced people anyway) but also they hate their jobs now. But ARE students going to be in a world that requires it? 141
Nathan Mishler @nathan-cypher.bsky.social · 23/09/2026I bought my own house this year and honestly? thinking about decorative gourds. 010
Nathan Mishler @nathan-cypher.bsky.social · 23/09/2026I just got my first steady job in 25 years and let me say 47 is feeling pretty good. (Don't start your own company and not be super successful at it kids) 110
Nathan Mishler @nathan-cypher.bsky.social · 19/09/2026There’s a little sign in a building I teach in made with AI and I want to scream and rip it off the wall every time I see it. Incidentally someone in my unit said to me “for a technology person you’re really down on ai!” I said: “Yes, it’s bad.” 010
Nathan Mishler @nathan-cypher.bsky.social · 18/09/2026Oh hey. I could play Control Resonate on PC at launch??? What is this. 000
Nathan Mishler @nathan-cypher.bsky.social · 18/09/2026Rude Tales of Magic the latest arc is barely rude and very sweet at times 120
Nathan Mishler @nathan-cypher.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Wow I used to get him in my shorts recommends a bunch of 010
Nathan Mishler @nathan-cypher.bsky.social · 15/09/2026I understand the desire to do a sort of Dogme 95 with beginning writers but the juxtaposition of that list with Lovely Bones is funny. 020
Nathan Mishler @nathan-cypher.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Only kind of with northern Indiana but I reccognize what he’s doing 001
Nathan Mishler @nathan-cypher.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Late as usual but Despolote lives up to the hype 010
Nathan Mishler @nathan-cypher.bsky.social · 08/09/2026I was never that into Ocarina of Time because I did NOT like early 3D. My beloved pixel art became flat shaded polygons. Yuck. So this new OOT has me feeling conflicted. Weird, but also, maybe I want to play it? Love the floppy hat. 010
Nathan Mishler @nathan-cypher.bsky.social · 04/09/2026I was looking up aphantasic recently and learned that a LOT of artists are 030
