Keep an eye out and there are sculptures literally built into the walls of Dodger Stadium—but there wasn't a lick of info about them anywhere. Even the team didn't know. For @lamaterial.com, found answers in a basement: lamaterial.com/p/dodger-sta...

Only partially what this is about, but I appreciate Daniel's candor about how fucked the finances of being a freelance journalist are. Going viral is great, but they don't pay you more when that happens. Our bills don't get paid in clicks, and the set rates are simply not livable

Cregger also a “just a cup for water please” AMC guy. they insist on giving us the smallest cups in the world to force us to buy a gallon of soda for $27.99 but we will not budge. The little cup of ice water with residual sprite runoff is all we need

Last night they had a Ramones event at Hollywood Forever and for some reason that included John Travolta presenting a screening of Propeller One-Way Night Coach. He wore his director’s beret, pronounced “debut” the French way, and told the crowd that it won the Palm d’or

Editors who go crazy slicing and dicing never make the story better either. They fuck it up and make you look bad and feel bad. Insult to injury is it takes forever to deal with a sea of red in a doc too, so you’re doing way more work for no extra pay. Feels like an ego trip most of the time

Had to go into a Chase to open an account and was making small talk with the bank guy while we went through the forms. I said "I remember when I was a kid this was a—" and he cut in sagely: "a Boston Market, yes." He knew his role as the keeper of the land's history

My dad did this art for Ray Gunn in the 90s—the movie didn't get made but then he ended up doing more art for Brad Bird on The Iron Giant and The Incredibles. I couldn't believe when he told me they kept what he did 30 years ago and were using it now. Sometimes things work out

Cool to have @toley.bsky.social shout out this story in the Defector newsletter. You'd be shocked at how thin-skinned major publications have become. It took guts for Defector to do this, and because they did the story is a larger window into How Things Work: defector.beehiiv.com/p/defector-p...

Was introduced to someone at Jazz Fest and we were talking about things getting shittier. Unsolicited, she brought up bright headlights and described them being engineered to bypass regulations. I asked where she heard that and she said NPR and I said that was me. Life, man

Sort of a weekend read, so posting this again. It's a sequel to the headlights investigation I did for the Ringer in 2024, now that there's political movement. Really, it's a story about federal regulation and How Things Work (or don't) in this country: nymag.com/intelligence...

Back on the headlight beat, this time for @nymag.com, following the brightness war as it's entered Congress and become a bipartisan bellwether issue for Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez. Are we making progress or spinning wheels? The answer might be in NHTSA's history: nymag.com/intelligence...

A few recent documentaries really struck me for the way they used untraditional footage—both inspiring and concerning at the same time.
