Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Anarchism is a society organised without rulers. Libertarianism was originally another word for Anarchism. Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 23/09/2026How to tell if someone misunderstands anarchism As I get fed up repeating the same responses over and over again ... Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 21/09/2026We'll take the word back in America one of these days (& in many other countries it is still the popular word for anarchists) 010
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 14/09/2026You are part of a long venerable tradition of anti-state Marxists such as Rosa Luxemberg. & arguably Marx himself - 'the working class cannot simply lay hold of the ready-made State machinery and wield it for its own purposes.' anarwiki.org/wiki/Liberta... anarwiki.org/wiki/Council... 000
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 13/09/2026Anarchists have often been attacked on several fronts at once - by capitalist and 'socialist' states, and there are lessons to be learnt from that. But most 'socialist' states (95%) have been defeated by capitalist ones too, so states are no guarantee of successful defence from capitalist invaders. 001
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 13/09/2026You’re right that it isn’t anarchism in and of itself - although some have seen it as a possible method of achieving anarchism - through taking over workplaces and out of capitalists hands & producing for need - but if all a union does is negotiate wages then it certainly isn’t accomplishing that 120
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 13/09/2026I figured if it popped up on my feed others might be seeing it too, so thought it might be a thought worth sharing. BSky is a bit chaotic like that - some might even call it anarchistic ;-) 010
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 12/09/2026Or maybe anarchism is the only ideology not relying on faith in humanity - if you don’t trust anyone not to abuse power then maybe the best way to stop them abusing it is to try to prevent them from getting any power over anyone else. 120
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Note: This doesn’t stop other anarchists wanting more radical change sooner and using more radical methods now (direct action), or others working in the systems and processes we already have (platformism). It is a large tent of all sort of egalitarians seeking to help others. 000
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Some anarchists aren't convinced that complete anarchism (fully communal, stateless, moneyless) will be achieved for a thousand years, but are focused on lessening the negative effects of hierarchy, inequality, and injustice in their communities now, because that does make a difference in the world. 120
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 11/09/2026As Edward Abbey says - "Anarchism is not a romantic fable but the hardheaded realisation … that since few men are wise enough to rule themselves, even fewer are wise enough to rule others … Anarchism is [just] democracy taken seriously.” ... 110
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 11/09/2026The way we do things now creates such inequality, injustice and environmental destruction that it is unsustainable and beyond simple reform, this comes from being in an environment in which conditions imposed from above determine such outcomes in order to maintain the power and wealth of a few. … 100
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 11/09/2026This isn’t an untried experiment, but has been realised in large regions among millions of people for hundreds of years & as Gall’s law states, ‘every complex system which worked evolved from a simple system that worked’. I don’t think our current capitalist system works for most people. ... 100
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 11/09/2026The question is whether we are stuck in the top-down-systems we already have and that only those systems can guarantee us our rights - I don’t believe history or even more modern examples show this to be true, but show credible alternatives instead. … 100
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Anarchists don’t want less ‘rights’ they want more freedoms, they don’t want rugged individualism they want collective flourishing. Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 11/09/2026I agree that conditions largely determine outcomes - this is why I want the conditions to change so the outcomes can too. Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 10/09/2026If Anarchism had a formula it might be - how much can we be free from needless suffering and how far can we be free to make choices and have opportunities - while maximising co-operation and shared power together (rather than power of others over us). It’s a process, as much as it is a goal. 010
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 10/09/2026One example - Maybe anarchism ‘starts to look like states’ from that outside, but it has at least two major fundamental differences - no group or system ruling over anyone else & no-one compelled to serve the system or be punished. peacefulrevolutionary.substack.com/i/181585410/... …peacefulrevolutionary.substack.comMisunderstanding Anarchism& Misunderstanding Self-Defence, Expertise, Leadership, Justification, Governments & Democracy 210

Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 10/09/2026It's a challenge to envision things different from what we're familiar with - we already know how they (dysfunctionally) work & spent a lifetime dealing with them, so its harder to conceive of radical alternatives. Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 10/09/2026I think the focus on the local is due to the fact that this is where we encounter needs & inequalities & opportunities most readily and personally & even at that level there is the potential to federate outwards - which anarchists are beginning to redo after major setbacks decades ago 010

Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 10/09/2026If all the systems of a state disappeared tomorrow it'd be a huge challenge to reproduce all of that quickly from scratch, although shifting sideways from a top-down hierarchy to a horizontal decentralised reorganisation performing the same functions would (I'd argue) be entirely possible ... 110
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Some anarchist focus more on what they can practically do to improve the world immediately around them right now where they are. That's fine with me. But out of curiosity - What is it you feel you aren't getting answers to that you feel anarchists should have answers to? 110
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 10/09/2026I can understand the anxiousness of some anarchists at the moment with recent clampdowns in some countries, and as for finding detailed answers I suppose that not every anarchist is an academic, but it's not like there is any lack of research and history and answers online. 110
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 03/09/2026Agreed - the evils done under the pretence on being ‘our behalf’ in order to enrich defence contractors and weapons manufacturers and to distract from more fundamental problems has led to some of the greatest atrocities the world has known in the last century. 010
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 03/09/2026The internet hasn’t been anarchistic in most major areas for quite a while - but it is the capitalistic side that took over and prioritised anger and divisiveness and extremes because they generated more advertising profit - rather than the older anarchistic cooperative & supportive models. 010
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 03/09/2026Well it isn’t my ‘NATO’ & I’ll acknowledge the existence and evil of fascists wherever they are. I appreciate too that this is a proxy war between NATO & Russian imperialism & don’t want to support either. 100
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 03/09/2026I understand that there can be lesser and greater evils, that not all evils are of the same equivalency - But in a scenario in which Putin might kill me for my Socialist beliefs and Zelensky might imprison me for them I suppose I’d be forced to choose Ukraine, but I’d rather choose neither. 100
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 03/09/2026Is he technically wrong? Apart from those Russian fascists on the Ukrainian side aren't there still Russian fascists on the Russian side? Perhaps even more of them there? Either way, Is it such a surprise to find fascists in capitalist Ukraine and capitalist Russia? 100
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 02/09/2026Well there have been some pretty long lived societies without rulers - millions of people for hundreds of years over country sized regions - so it has been possible, but you're right that it is often attacked and anarchists need to be better at defending themselves than they have been. 000
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 02/09/2026Having only a couple bad examples out of hundreds seems more like rare aberrations than a general trend to me. Wasn't CHAZ the opposite of you're arguing? It was a protest - Nobody formed a government & it fell apart into vigilante violence because no accountable structure existed 100
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 02/09/2026I’d be interested to learn about your examples of anarchists with guns getting conquered from the inside. 100
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 31/08/2026Some certainly do believe that & maybe they’ll yet be proven right When those who try to build socialism that way transition their state to communism then maybe even anarchists might believe that too - but until then anarchists may be forgiven for having some doubts. 000
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 31/08/2026Since almost all anarchists are socialists and since most anarchists are anarcho-communists you can assume most of them see socialism and communism as an essential and inseparable part of the process of achieving anarchism - albeit without the step of states. 120

Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 28/08/2026These have not been socialist states - by their own admission, unless we want to start changing the meaning of socialism & many of these states killed anarchists - that's not the kind of freedom I want, nor am I willing to sacrifice for some future that may not be. 000
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 28/08/2026So it protected socialism by never implementing it & by implementing state capitalism instead? If thats the best way of achieving socialism then it seems indistinguishable from not implementing it all - which capitalism already does. I'm sorry I can't see the merit or socialism in such an approach. 000
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 28/08/2026Anarchists are not pacifists. But a state isn't a gun - it is a rulership, it is a system of dominant power over others. "The state is the executive committee of the ruling class" (Marx) & "While the State exists, there can be no freedom." (Lenin) I want freedom. 100
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 28/08/2026State vs state loses too. There is no USSR any longer. They sacrificed socialism to fight capitalism and capitalism still won. States are not a strategy that has ever achieved socialism or ended capitalism. I respect your right to have faith that it one day will, but I don't share your belief. 110
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 27/08/2026You're right - buying groceries isn't communism. That's not mutual aid, which is communal - 'to each according to need'. Communism is stateless, classless (thus hierarchyless), propertyless, producing for need, and moneyless. Communism isn't states etc. - the opposite of the USSR in every way. 110
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 27/08/2026Well when that socialist state exists let me know so I can judge it on its merits, including its ability to transition to communism one day. Whereas I've seen real / material changes that embody communist principle through anarchist mutual aid and direct action personally already. 110
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 27/08/2026But it wasn't communism was it? It didn't meet any definition of the word. The USSR (or China) may have organised non-communism very well, but that doesn't make it any more communistic. They were trying to attain / maintain power to try communism later, I just don't see that as a path to communism. 100
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 26/08/2026When you achieve communism with your state approach let me know, until then from what I’ve seen I’ve concluded that such an approach isn’t possible, and that trying it ultimately thwarts progress towards communism. So good luck with that! 110
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 26/08/2026By the might makes right argument capitalism is definitely the winner (unless you are looking at earlier decentralised societies over large regions and populations which lasted much longer, as well as decentralised communities and resistance which are still ongoing today). 000
Nate The Prole @nateprole.bsky.social · 26/08/2026Anarchism wants fundamentally different things and judges what constitutes progress in fundamentally different ways. What you call success (obtaining state power for a limited time) it considers a failure. Maybe such states will one day achieve socialism, but anarchists see no reason to believe so. 200
