And when you’re scoring and Stormy’s in goal, who then?

Or better, “when you have no reason to know their names”

Tropical systems are like referees - it’s better when you don’t know their names.

I’ve made the trip from Universal City to LAX many times, and I’m not sure it’s ever been the same way twice. Today’s route went through downtown and is on the 110 to the 105. Nice view of DTLA on the way in. (Pardon the reflection!)

Here in the Springs we got some dark clouds, a fractious gusts, a light show with a little thunder, and … That was it actually. Not a drop. Enjoy the rain!

The Uber driver for my ride back to the airport is Liberian and asked what I’d eaten while I was here. He listened then suggested next time I look for a place that serves jollof rice. I’m no Anthony Bourdain, but I’m definitely going to seek this out. Sounds delicious.

I’m in Minneapolis, it’s 70° with no humidity, and I just had a very good Mediterranean dinner outside. I regret nothing. I just wish I could share that with all of you suffering in the heat and humidity back home (like I will be this weekend).

Getting our second for the day in Holly Springs right now. I want to just sign out of work, go stand on the front porch with a cup of coffee, and say, "boy, we really need this."

Should I look to cut the smaller ones to prevent competition or just leave ‘em alone? Pics 1 and 2 are the same area; pic 3 is a different area. (2/2)

Question for the arborists here on BlueSky… I live near Raleigh NC, and my house backs up to a natural wooded area. How concerned should I be about otherwise healthy looking trees like these here being too close together? (1/)

Just saw Project Hail Mary for the second time. It’s definitely a movie I wish I could see again for the first time, but what I gave up in the thrill of the first viewing I gained in noticing some of the things I missed the first time because I was too wound up.

Extra thoughts: Yes, it is a bummer that it hits on a holiday weekend. No, it will not rain every moment of every day. Yes, most hours of most of these days will be dry and fine for outdoor activities. No, the "100%" on Sunday does not mean it will rain all day. Yes, the heat is gone for a week.

When you've had the driest start to a year since records began, a forecast like this is enough to bring your local meteorologist, hydrologist, climatologist, farmer, river keeper, and water manager to tears. Will this end the drought? Nope. Would it make a nice dent? You betcha.

If you're planning to tailgate this evening, keep an eye to the sky. Good chance for showers/thunderstorms as we get into the evening hours.

Today I learned that “mac and cheese fraud” is (allegedly) a thing www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...

Chick-fil-A worker busted for criminal mac-tivity in $80,000 mac 'n' cheese fraud, police say
Keyshun Jones allegedly ordered the comfort food and then immediately refunded the money to his credit cards.

Couple of orders of magnitude. Plenty of research on urban heat islands… likely close enough to make loose inferences. A city like Atlanta is big enough and both produces enough heat and disrupts what would normally the the heat/cool cycle of non-urban land use enough to affect downstream wx

And Martinook with the winner, redeeming himself after the penalty shot. The last 5 minutes of 2OT were INSANE.

Agree to disagree. But I absolutely have a dog in this hunt. The intermission show folks don't seem to be convinced it was offsides either. But whatever - Canes have lots of SOG but are losing face-offs almost 2:1. Never great to put themselves in a position to have the refs decide it.

Nate Johnson @natejohnson.org · 21/04/2026
I'm disappointed that the Jankowski goal was disallowed, but it's great that the review opened up everything and they awarded the penalty shot on a foul the refs didn't call the first time through. I don't hate that at all.

Got some more data yesterday on model verification - there is a definitive decreasing trend in global model scores that raises concerns about NWS upper air struggles. But this is a complex scientific problem that needs dedicated experiments to understand what the actual impacts might be.
