Avacyn will trigger for each creature they controlled that just died, and Avacyn and all of their creatures will return to the battlefield at the end of turn.

Nathan Long @natedogg.bsky.social · 3h
A: They'll all come back at the end of turn. With dies triggers, they can see creatures dying at the same time as themselves and can trigger for them. Day of Judgment destroys everything at the same time, so Avacyn sees itself and the other creatures they control dying.

I think I manage to avoid that one (but we did rent the Home Improvement game a bunch as well).

You jest, but my family rented the Cool Spot game numerous times from the local video store when I was a kid.

I liked it. It does drag a little bit, but I like it overall

No team in the NFC East won this week, and two of those teams faced each other.

Now you get to unteach yourself!

It could be appropriate for the reception afterwards though.

Vohar's ability lets you cast the End, but doesn't give you an alternate cost to cast it, so it still cannot be cast. But if you can find a way to cast it for an alternate cost (for example, you have As Foretold in play), you'll be able to cast it from your graveyard using that alternate cost.
170
Nathan Long @natedogg.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
A: No, you need more help to cast it. Vohar's ability lets you cast the instant or sorcery card, but Living End doesn't have a mana cost to be paid (which is why you can't cast it normally and normally need to suspend it first).

I think I remember enjoying Blur from playing it back in the day, for what it's worth.

And since you didn't spend any mana to cast the Spellbomb, your opponent's Bauble will trigger and your Spellbomb will be countered.
0100
Nathan Long @natedogg.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
A: No you may not. The discount from Thalia is not optional. You can't choose to ignore the discount if you want to pay for the spell. Since you can't opt out of Thalia's discount, if you cast the Spellbomb in this case, you're spending zero mana to cast it.

Day 452 of Natedogg's Daily Rules Tip: Q: I control a Geist of Saint Thalia, and my opponent controls a Vexing Bauble. I want to cast an Aether Spellbomb. Can I ignore the discount from Thalia so the Bauble doesn't counter my spell? #mtg

Is it really "bi-annual" if you do the degreasing one day, and then do the second degreasing for the year the next day?

The Spyglass asks your opponent to choose a card name, but there's no card named "Jace Token". So your opponent cannot choose the name of a token unless that token's name also shares a name with the name of a card.
1120
Nathan Long @natedogg.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
A: No, they cannot do that. If the effect that makes a token doesn't specify the name of the token, it's the same as its subtypes when it was created, plus the word "token". So the name of your Jace token is "Jace Token".

This feels like how I first started watching Star Trek. Except for some reason, I chose not to watch DS9 at the time. I'm still trying to make up for that mistake years later.

If everyone loses the game at the same (for example, an Earthquake to reduce everyone's life total to 0 or less), then the game is a draw. If you're in a tournament and there's still time left in the round, you move onto a new game, but you record that draw when reporting your results.

Nathan Long @natedogg.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
You don't just win the game by having Fblthp in play with an empty library - you have to do a little work and deal combat damage to the opponent in order to get the trigger.
170
Nathan Long @natedogg.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
In order for that ability to trigger, you'll need to deal combat damage to one or more opponents. When that trigger resolves, after drawing two cards, Fblthp will then finally check the number of cards in your library, and if that number is 0, you win the game.
140
Nathan Long @natedogg.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
A: No, not quite yet. Fblthp has one big triggered ability, and it only checks the number of cards in your library as part of that trigger resolving. It's not constantly checking the number of cards in your library.

It has been a while since I thought about this, but the phasing errata for Oubliette and Tawnos's Coffin was removed with the release of Master's Edition on MTGO. Unfortunately, the Update Bulletin associated with that release has fallen off the internet. yawgatog.com/resources/or...

You'll create the token just fine, but since your opponent is the attacking player and not you, the token will not be an attacking creature.
0160
Nathan Long @natedogg.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
When that trigger resolves, you create a 1/1 Kor Ally creature token that's tapped but not attacking. You are not the attacking player, so you can't put or create something that's an attacking creature into play.
1150
Nathan Long @natedogg.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
A: The attack trigger is an ability of Captain's Claws, not an ability given to the creature, so you still control that trigger, even if the Claws ends up attached to a creature an opponent controls.

When we check state-based actions after the Reproach is done resolving, you're at -5 life, and since you no longer have an effect in play preventing you from losing the game (since the Angel is phased out), you lose the game.
0220
Nathan Long @natedogg.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
A: You lose the game. When the Reproach resolves, all of your nonland permanents phase out, including your Darksteel Angel. Now there's no effect that's preventing you from losing the game, and you're still at -5 life.

The most nervous part of any SMT gameplay is the enemy using Hama/Mudo on your main character, and you just have to hope it misses or you dodge it, or it's an instant game over. I have not died to it yet. Key word being "yet".

Banding is easy. On attacks, it makes your creatures into a Katamari Damaci ball. On blocks, it turns off trample. That gets you most of the way there.

If Tarmogoyf had a +1/+1 counter on it or you cast something like Giant Growth targeting it, then Tarmogoyf would survive, since both of those effects apply in layer 7c, after Multiply by Zero is applied.
