End of the World and Hard-Boiled Wonderland review – Murakami’s marvel brilliantly brought to life
With a dual narrative set in Tokyo and a world of dreams, Philippe Decouflé’s epic production is as bewitching as its balletic unicorns

This week has been largely bloody awful, but I am going to settle down this evening with a book (Stephen King's latest) and some whisky and hope that the baby goes and stays the heck to sleep.

Had a lovely old time seeing @mikewozniak.bsky.social In Leeds yesterday evening. Hearty recommendation to see The Bench if you're able to snaffle tickets.

Say what you will about France, but my goodness they have a proud tradition of making sure their grievances are really bloody audible.

Jesus going all in on Christianity in his 30s makes me wonder what he’d done in his 20s.

NRL Grand Final will be the Newcastle Knights and the Sydney Roosters. The team I follow against a team I have nothing but good feelings towards. It's going to be an awesome event.

Finally watched The Name of the Rose. The book is in my top 5 and the film did not disappoint.

Currently on a bit of a Le Carré binge. Midway through Tinker Tailor... and I am reminded that up there with the greatest cinematic tragedies is that we won't see Tomas Alfredson adapting Smiley's People.

Got an email from Waterstones to say that my copy of The Rouse by China Miéville is preparing for dispatch. Very much looking forward to this one. An email which has improved an otherwise tedious and frustrating day.

I'm reaching the end of my current book, Exodus: The Archimedes Engine (a massive bastard of a sci-fi novel which I have enjoyed) and am torn between Le Carré (The Looking Glass War) or Murakami (Wild Sheep Chase) next.

Today will be alleviated by some sultry-ass jazz. Davis was a complicated figure (read: giganto-bellend), but the guy knew what he was fucking doing with a trumpet.

I've found that, certainly as a parent with young children, the reference page can help to disperse some of the fatigue fog which can settle with long nights, especially if there are sometimes gaps of a few days between picking up the book.

Tuesday's child is full of hope and it is this hope which, unfulfilled and scorned, will consume all that is good, leaving only bitterness in it's wake.

Been feeling a bit overwhelmed by everything at the mo, so treated myself to Saros for when the baby is sleeping. Bloody loving it, all the more for it being cool as heck to play a character performed by @rahulkohli13.bsky.social. Big recommend - I'm having a blast.

It's definitely there. My record shop (big shout-out to Loafers in Halifax) is fantastic. The owner somehow remembers everything I've bought and will recommend new stuff when I'm in; we chat and I buy it or don't, but damn that is 100% what I want when I'm after anything (music, books, games etc).
