I completed this painting about a year ago of the old Asheville Waste Paper facility after it was struck by Helene's floods. They started cleaning up the site and Salvation Station was going to open a new music venue there, but the vacant structure burned a few months ago. #painting #stencilart

Saturday, September 26 from 5-7:30 pm Little Animals is having a floor to ceiling SALON of local artists and membership event. 31 Carolina Lane, #Asheville. This is one of my contributions. I stole this toy dinosaur from my nieces 20 years ago, so it's about time. #painting #art #ashevillearitst

A couple of weeks ago I went back to Round Bald, and then started working on the painting in the first photo. Today FB popped up a memory that nine years ago today I had the painting in the second photo on my easel. Seems like I'm repeating myself repeating myself. #painting #art

Puttering away at the studio. Jane Bald on the Appalachian Trail. I got a request for a more typical landscape, so I'm flexing those muscles for the first time in a while. #painting #art #appalachiantrail

In January 2024 two huge storms hit the Maine coast doing unbelievable damage. This tree was entirely undercut by the surf and was left hanging by a few roots in the bank. We've tried to rescue it as best we can. I did this series in tribute to this survivor. I grew old with this tree.

Riverside Cemetery has a featureless crypt with a decapitated cement deer and two wrought iron chairs sitting beside it. It always catches my eye. #asheville #stencil #painting

I recently got to revisit Great Spruce Head Island, home of Fairfield Porter, where I attended Art Week two years ago. It's a small island that has been the subject of so many artworks. It's a wonderful experience. #art #painting

I did a demo this morning for an artist friend to watch. I'm not sure stenciling is for everyone, but I still really enjoy the process...and the final reveal. #stencilpainting #art #painting #crabs #maineart

I'm getting ready to head to Maine, so here are some AI Lobsters. I hate AI as much as the next artist, so might as well mock the enemy. The latest AI models seem to have improved rendering humans by putting bland figures in bland poses. Not so with lobsters.

A while back I traveled to the art museum in Greenville to see a show in tribute to mail artist and Black Mountain College alum Ray Johnson by Richard Craven. I came home and made my own #papiermache tribute to RJ based on his postcard. Good luck mailing it. #rayjohnson #richardcanard #mailart

I was asked to make a birthday pinata, after which I got sidetracked back into making #papiermache sculptures for a time. I made some little sketches of animal people, and one became this snake man. #ashevilleartist #sculpture

Foggy morning at Sand Beach. The truth of my stencil paintings is... sometimes there is more than one. When I started doing these, I did more than one in case I screwed up printing the stencil after finishing the hand painting. Of course the longer I do this, the less I screw up. #painting #art

Now for something completely different. A friend suggested we have an AI art show. So I set up an AI model on my computer and told it to draw a self portrait. I rigged up a plotter and fed the result to it. So here you have it... original self portraits by my computer. Why do I feel so dirty?
