I remember when Bill Clinton—a FORMER president—met Obama’s sitting AG on an airplane and it was a massive scandal. Now, here’s Trump’s new AG just doing Trump political rallies like it’s NBD.

What kills me is that the mainstream media, then and now, this very day, could turn the country against Trump, easily. Minus 15-20% that will never leave him. If only they could come together with the kind of energy they had for curb-stomping Biden. They could turn this around. But they NEVER will

I love the fact that they're blaming Jimmy Carter and just hoping we all forget that Reagan illegally interfered with Carter getting the hostages released and was never prosecuted for it because he won.

I have no doubt this is what Elon believes and he messages it constantly. But my own sense here is that this is closer to Big Lie mechanics - stating a contrary set of maximal factual statements to give supporters talking points, a way of framing an issue.

Trump 2.0 has taught all the villains and henchmen in our cursed era that a relentless momentum of villainy will keep them safe. Never apologize. Never admit defeat or wrongdoing. Believe in the lie and no lie detector can touch you. The opposition will tire and grow cynical. And here we are.

It’s really hard not to despair about how seemingly every backstop for disaster seems to be purposefully failing. The trend will end, it always does, but it’s hard to see how at the moment.

A board probably WOULD step in if there were large scale, sustained outrage. But anti-RW narratives are starved and drowned. Ignored. All that’s “old news” now. At best, narrative-setters look at the 2024 election as objective proof that no horror is a dealbreaker, approval ratings be damned.

We really don’t reckon enough with how the flattening of truth and misinformation on social media + the right-wing takeover of all prominent “neutral” media = an environment where consequences for the far right don’t really exist anymore. Cowardice, confusion, complicity, & complacency rule the day.

Haven't seen the Odyssey yet, but if the final scene isn't Odysseus putting a feather quill back in its ink well, sighing with satisfaction as he gazes on his completed book, and flipping to the title page—"My Big Trip, by Raymond Odysseus"—I will scream. I am functionally illiterate.

The cover of Good Boy, my novel, translated into Spanish. It features a black dog sitting on a patch of grass, staring either mournfully or excitedly up at a free floating window in the heavens.

Journalists: please, please get ready for this in ADVANCE. We know Trump's going to claim "new evidence shows the 2020 election was stolen". You've got 3 days to write a story that confronts that lie head-on before he says it - pre-write this like an obit. America is begging you: plan ahead. 1/

Exactly. The president is going to spin some incredible lies about the 2020 election and the media -- and every single Democrat in the country -- has to be ready to smack this bullshit down immediately. Not a mealy-mouthed fact check or, golly, this is weird. Call it out as an assault on democracy.

Beyond infuriating to know how many of the same reporters who today are so clearheaded about the obvious motivations behind Trump’s upcoming bullshit about the 2020 election work for media institutions that will play into the weaponized neutrality Trump is counting on.

When people say that there is a bias against conservatives in places like the Times that reflects their failure to understand that the Times (like many university spaces) lowers standards to represent right-wing views for purposes of intellectual diversity.
