Interesting. I feel like waiting until after the playoffs was better timing. IMO when a team doesn’t show up that badly in the playoffs the buck stops at the head coach. Not saying don’t extend him (not really an immediate better option), but keep the pressure on & his seat needs to be warm in May.

For anyone doubting this, two things to keep in mind: 1) He has a chance to end up as one of the greatest defensemen in NHL history. You don’t let those players walk, you sign them for maximum term. 2) Context matters: it’s likely this could end up closer to MacKinnon’s current deal in a few years.

All of those things are facts, not spin. So if it hurts farmers, threatens jobs, makes utilities more expensive (or unavailable in some areas like Tahoe), and has no worthwhile uses for regular people, why is it so surprising there is backlash?
