My colleague Paul Taucher has published his first book! 🍾 If you are in to war crimes (in a respectable way) buy it for your library. Or even if you are not. We once prosecuted for command responsibility in Australia and here is that history. hkupress.hku.hk/Command_On_T...

Wouldn’t “exposing” or “demolishing” that facade be more accurate? Does the author not know the meaning of facade? What terrible writing.

Got one of those patently AI drafted email attempts to engage today which, despite disclaimer shown, has ChatGPT in the URLs on the links. Here’s the kicker … sent to me but NOT about one of my pubs. Addressed to a completely different academic by name about his book! Sent to me. Twice, no less.

I feel like there’s a tiny article to be written on these repeated thought bubbles of bills to ban this or that. This is about the third bill, assuming one is put forward, in less than 2 years, each with zero chance of passing or being upheld constitutional even if it is passed.

We should equally celebrate the libraries which diligently list each chapter of an edited book in their catalogue enabling gems to be found in otherwise innocuously titled books! Looking at you Peace Palace Library in Den Haag! 🍾

A corollary would be that you can’t get into a leadership position until you’ve spent 5 years there actually *learning* that place and the staff. There’s plenty that isn’t broken and doesn’t need to be upended.

I tried Lexis once I saw that it sponsored the org but nothing. It's just so unusual not have have a library catalogue admit that somethings exists, even if you then don't have access to it. Doc del here we go ...

Legal academic friends ... has anyone got access to this: Francis Bennion, 'Confusion over Plain Language Law' (2007) 16 The Commonwealth Lawyer, pp. 63-68? My university library won't even admit the journal exists! There doesn't appear to be any, umm, free floating copies around.

There’s something quite disturbingly classist? Elitist? about this coverage of a junior doctor who allegedly was “involved” in a death in Fremantle. Do we get this level of attention for everyone “involved” in a death? No, it seems to me it’s entirely because he’s a university graduate and doctor ..

The perverse incentives and odd advice handed out to Australian legal academics are similar, ie being told to publish niche research on Aust law of interest mostly to Aust readers in international (US mostly) law journals.

Australians are hungry for new history books – but historians are pressured not to publish locally
A new study shows that workplace priorities for Australian historians make it harder for their work to reach Australian readers – despite strong public interest.
