Establish picket lines at airport entrances. This neo-liberal privatization idiocy must stop. This will lead only to layoffs and suppressed wages and to increased fees. www.theglobeandmail.com/business/art...

Only two things are certain when the operation of public services is ceded to private equity. In order to make a profit (the idol of our time) the "investor" must: 1. Suppress variable costs (wages), and, 2. Increase fees. How is the a win for Canadians? www.theglobeandmail.com/business/art...

Billy Simons Jr. wasn't addressing Mark Carney when he wrote this line: "and when you sold your country, did you get a good deal" But he could have been! Mr. "Elbows Up" has led Canada to capitulation in trade negotiations with the USA. Resisting will be painful, but our sovereignty demands it.

No deal (yes, it will hurt - a lot) is better than capitulating to a bully who doesn't respect agreements in any event (Gordie Howe International Bridge, anyone). Trump's is a zero sum world. A deal lasts only as long as he doesn't think that he can extract more.

Canada's immigration policy is disgraceful We entice the educated and skilled. We lure them from their homelands and drain those societies. We favour "investors" who can buy their way in yet deny asylum seekers. Canada will always be a minor power for the values we espouse don't match our actions.

It's past time to remove our public services from the thrall of Milton Friedman. Public companies do important things no profit seeking company, beholden to its shareholders, not to the public good, would attempt. A delivery to Little Chicago for the price of an already overpriced stamp, for example

Canada Post is a public service! It needs to be run as efficiently as possible, but it must not be judged as a profit making corporation. In addition to the cost of stamps (user pay, and, essentially, a regressive tax), the deficit is borne by all Canadians to fund this vital national service.

At the turn of the 20th century, the German SPD struggled with the question of how to achieve power. They watered down their goals and Germany ended up with the Weimar disaster. In Canada, the NDP also has chosen to water down goals. This has contributed mightily to the impending Polievre disaster.
