I’m feeling some kind of way about people talking trash about Gateway Centre arena. It’s fine to celebrate the Dream outgrowing Gateway without trashing the very logical business case for moving to a smaller arena with lower overheads to ride out the lean years for women’s basketball. #wnba

The Dream also had the longest active streak of sell out games until they started moving games to State Farm. The Mystics also have a small arena but they don’t always sell out. Gateway has been good to Atlanta. The business case for a small arena that they owned was good. They’ve just outgrown it.

The Dream play excellent defence against the Valks but it comes at the expense of their offensive production. All of them posted their worst scoring games against the Valks except Okot. They need to play through her and she needs to stop fouling. But this is also why I find DB intriguing.

To me the big change is DB and if Karl actually lets Madina play. Madina is stronger than Kiah and has great footwork. She had her best game in the season against them. And we haven’t seen DB against GSV either. Atlanta does a great job on GSV’s starters but GSV has a better bench.

Also they don’t know how to write about GSV because they are lazy and it might require a little more thought than rehashing popular social media discourse.

As a Dream fan I can say this - the only reason why mainstream sports publications are picking the Dream over GSV is because they want you to gamble. On paper at least and based on the regular season record Atlanta is the underdog . #wnba

Also it’s important this happened because the league needs to think carefully about what a 50 game season means. Will they expect the NCAA to shorten their calendar or will they expect the NBA teams to keep accommodating the playoffs?

THANK YOU! People are acting like Gateway is a random venue instead of the Atlanta Dream’s actual home arena and where they played a playoff game just last season. Of course it would be great to play at State Farm but the Mystics won while playing at CareFirst. It is not the end of the world.
