Prison doesn’t necessarily reduce reoffendimg. Dr. Larroulet's decade-long SCJ study of ~200 women in Chile found most saw little change in offending after release, but those with the most extensive histories reduced offending the most, especially with access to job training.

Todd Clear showed concentrated incarceration destabilizes communities. Sara Wakefield, our PhD Program Chair, now quantifies the harm one layer down: what happens to the children left behind. Two generations of SCJ scholarship, one throughline. #MassIncarceration Full post: lnkd.in/p/e6izq6RH

Following up on my South Africa posts, I should probably mention the reason I was there. It was a pleasure to connect with scholars at the Environmental Criminology and Crime Analysis Symposium hosted by at the Southern Africa Wildlife College by Greg Breetzke, Tinus Kruger and Lizette Lancaster.

Hello, again - still posting from South Africa. Today I’m sharing some amazing highlights from a safari at Pilanesburg Reserve outside of Johannesburg. Saw a remarkable collection of wildlife including rhino, mongoose, wildebeest , kudu, impala, elephant, zebra, warthog, hippo, giraffe, & steenbock.

Greetings from South Africa, where I’ve arrived early before the environmental criminology conference at the South African Wildlife College at Kruger National Park next weekend. This week in Johannesburg I toured Prison 4, the Apartheid Museum, and Soweto

Thrilled to share that Dr. Todd Clear was awarded the ASC's Edwin H. Sutherland Award, one of the field's highest honors. He found that overreliance on incarceration generates injustice and crime rather than reducing them. He grew NJ-STEP, raised $10M+ for policy, and mentored 40+ PhD students.

Miseka Diggs served 7 years under NJ mand. min. drug laws. She graduated from RU-N last month at 49. Her story is a clear argument for sentencing reform, and a reminder that every county prosecutor in NJ agrees, the research agrees, and the Legislature still hasn't moved. By Ted Sherman at NJ.com:

Even prosecutors think N.J.’s ‘war on drugs’ rules should be gone. Why aren’t they?
A state commission has called for sentencing changes to reduce racial disparities, but the Legislature has shown no willingness to act.

I'm thrilled to share that I've been elected President of the American Society of Criminology. I'll be taking office in 2028 My priorities: listening to ALL ASC members, making ASC a stronger public voice for criminology, and deepening our commitment to international scholars
