This week, I visited a couple on NVMM’s pop-up Service in Action Nooks at Carriage Place Community Center and Schiller Park’s Senior Wellness Jamboree. The Service Nooks give visitors of all ages a place to perform simple service projects such as writing a thank you note to a veteran.

Yesterday, over 300 volunteers packed 117,600 meal kits and local youth packed 400 hygiene kits as an act of service to commemorate 9/11, making it a Day of Service as well as a Day of Remembrance. #911Day

Today's Linden Unity Festival gave me a great opportunity to meet local business owners, artists, an author, food trucks, caterers, and a line dance instructor plus hang out with community members. The festivities continue this evening with live music at Maloney Park.

It's feeling festive at the Columbus International Festival today! Live music, an international fashion show, family-friendly activities, and a large international tasting room so you can try out new to you foods. The festivities continue until 6 pm tonight at the Franklin County Fairgrounds.

I attended my first tent pegging event last night at the Jashn-e-Pak America 2026 and it was amazing! Abdullah Barsa, Barsa Club USA and the Midwest Tent Pegging Association organized a fantastic festival celebrating Pakistani culture with national and international guests and competitors.

This afternoon, I visited the women's ESL class at the Immigrants Integration Station. The classroom was packed! I then spent time with the executive director to hear updates about the variety of programs they offer in NW Columbus.

I love an eclectic day out in the community! I started at Alianza 614's 3rd Annual Happy Backpack event on the Hilltop where I helped hand out backpacks and water bottles. Next up was the Vet Ohio Expo where I provided opening remarks for the annual veterans business expo event.

Last night, I attended the opening of the "Portraits of Courage, a Commander in Chief's Tribute to America's Warriors" exhibit at The National Veterans Memorial and Museum and heard from two of the soldiers whose portraits are on display.

Last night, we celebrated the completion of the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department's APPS Job Readiness Program Summer Cohort. The program provides teenagers with paid work experience, job readiness training and mentorship. This summer's participants completed 47,033 hours of paid experience!

When you work as a team you can pick up a lot of trash in one hour. Every Friday at noon, folks gather at the corner of Sullivant and S Hague to pick up trash. Everyone is welcome to join them.

I ended my Friday night at a community event for children hosted by Bethel International United Methodist Church and then started my Saturday at a City of Grace Church event honoring seniors. Two great churches doing meaningful engagement in their communities.

Yesterday, I attended the All Disabilities Festival and was impressed by the large number of organizations that participated. It was a hot day but that didn't stop the attendees from enjoying the entertainment and connecting with resources.

Yesterday, I got to do one of my favorite things - celebrate the opening of a new business in Columbus District 2. Bait al Karam Shawnrma & Grill is a new woman owned restaurant at 5394 Roberts Road near Hilliard Rome Road. Wherever you live, work and play, support local businesses.

Started my day at the unveiling of the Ohio Historical Marker for the Pater Noster House. Barbara Cordle's son shared poignant stories of his mother's ministry of love and mercy and how the "our Father" of the Lord's Prayer taught her to know and treat others as her brother and sister.

Yesterday's Columbus Memorial Day Service at the Linden War Memorial included a special tribute to MSgt Tyler Simmons. When we refurbished the monument in late 2024, we hoped we would never need to add the name of another service member killed in action; tragically, it became necessary this year.

Yesterday, I joined Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks for the official grand opening of Great Southern Metro Park on the city's south side. The City of Columbus and Metro Parks collaborated on this newest addition to our Metro Parks.

Back to back days at The National Veterans Memorial and Museum this weekend. On Saturday, we honored Vietnam Veterans in a Welcome Home Ceremony and on Sunday we honored the women of the 6888 and celebrated women veterans.
