Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 01/08/2026I remember reading about the 1-2-3-4 plan (?) by the NYC DSA to build a party-like structure and present being an alternative to existing Dem politics, which has candidates downplay being Dems as much as possible and vote as one socialist bloc if elected. It's def not enough but it's a start imo 011
Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 01/08/2026As well as to bring people into the fold and get involved with the DSA, to push people to the left, and as an opportunity for the DSA to build a real socialist party (which is involved in more than just elections) 110
Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 01/08/2026To think we can change the Dem party is folly. I think it's useful insofar as a venue to demonstrate the limits of electoralism to get the world we want 120

Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 14/07/2026In undergrad I had a classical sociology theory class where we read Democracy in America along with Marx (and Weber and Durkheim ofc) and maybe it was just reading them back to back but I very much had that same impression. It's a fascinating book imo 030
Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 13/07/2026(caveat I'm still learning Chinese and have not played total war 3k) but I'm assuming based on other place names that it's 东平/東平, which would be "East" and "flat/level/peaceful". Not sure what ling would be but checking my dictionary maybe 陵 - "hill/mound/mausoleum"? 220
Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 02/07/2026It was one of the more amusing parts of the manifesto 020
Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 01/07/2026I love being reminded that the Median Voter is a Nazi ihateithere 010
Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 29/06/2026Is that the dumbass "I kinda miss capitalism" clickbait video he just put out? I couldn't bring myself to watch it 150
Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 05/06/2026Would "does life start at conception or at birth" by any other name smell as sweet? 110
Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 04/06/2026I knew the gods punished hubris but this is a bit harsh 110
Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 30/05/2026It's a weird experience though, I get that not everyone wants it. I don't like hostels so it worked for me 100
Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 30/05/2026I used it a long time ago so idk about now. I got places with a private room for much cheaper than a hotel in the area. Some hosts were very friendly, invited me to join them for dinner (homemade veg lasagna!) and some very preferred to keep to themselves. I think I've just been very lucky though 110
Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 21/05/2026DaVinci Resolve? I think there's a free version and a one time fee "Studio" version 120
Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 19/05/2026Hell yeah okay I'm gonna have to go looking for it. My neighbors in SD were Muslim and I've been past that mosque so many times, Gloria really is a disgrace 010
Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 19/05/2026Wait was this a video or a post on here? I used to live in SD and hate Gloria 110
Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 17/05/2026This album converted me into a jazz fan! Maybe it's because I grew up in the church but I definitely got the spiritual angle and it made me sob baby tears and almost believe in god again lol, great stuff 130
Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 06/05/2026The funniest thing to me about this whole meltdown to the original thread is that my (Afrikaans speaking) parents specifically didn't teach me Afrikaans so I wouldn't have an Afrikaans accent, because they thought it sounded bad lol 160
Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 06/05/2026With mfs like this and the "refugees" every day is a struggle to decide if it's more embarrassing to be South African or American smh 120
Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 31/03/2026Thank you for saying this and for understanding this <3 010
Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 25/01/2026I do, however, think there's potentially some cuteness in the creative misreading of the theological idea of consubstantiality/the trinity as a model for an idea of unity in and through difference, i.e. of all things. But I don't think that's what the folks at Nicea had in mind 001
Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 25/01/2026And even if it did offer a coherent monotheistic trinitarian view, it still doesn't fix the problem because it just indefinitely pushes back the From-ness in time without addressing the From-ness/Is-ness question 100
Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 25/01/2026To your point, when I was in the church that issue was often "resolved" by projecting Jesus back to creation through some, uh, creative readings of Genesis, essentially read through John 1. The Logos etc. Which is funny because I think John 1 actually offers a polytheistic view if anything 100
Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 25/01/2026No I agree it doesn't make much sense metaphysically lol. I think the whole consubstantiality thing is downstream of the "Jesus as divine" thing, which is the primary belief and requires some working backwards logic to make things work, hence why it's all so weird 100
Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 25/01/2026It's a strange situation where "the Father" is paramount, as in Jesus and the holy spirit are from him in some sense, but also that they have equality in all being the same, well, being 100
Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 25/01/2026What I mean is, in practice, I don't think most Christians really know what they mean by this. I know there's a long history with Nicea etc, and the holy spirit was not originally included in the consubstantial thing. 100
Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 25/01/2026I never got a consistent definition/defense of this (grew up protestant). There must be careful reasonings, but all I was taught was some version of managing to hold the "just trust me bro" idea of "these are different people but are of the same being". Maybe the christian god is plural? *shrug* 100
Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 06/01/2026Genuinely trying to understand, because I've seen discourse about "community" for a long time, do you think e.g. "the music community" or "the anti-war community" are equal bastardizations of the term, as in to mean something like "intelligible as a distinct group"? 150
Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 05/12/2025Really like The German Ideology and the Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts, but maybe it's just a soft spot because they were some of the first Marx & Engels I read. Ofc The 18th Brumaire. Engels' "The Part Played by Labor in the Transition from Ape to Man" has stuck with me for a long time 040
Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 28/11/2025I got covid really early in 2020 and had fatigue + similar cardiac symptoms + brain fog. Went through tons of cardiac + pulmonary tests and scans, doctors were confounded. When the vax was available I got it early, and after the second dose my symptoms cleared up. Just anecdata but hopefully helpful 040
Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 08/10/2025I love "Passengers" by Denis Johnson! www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/143782... Everything I've read from John Ashbery has pretty much always been gold. Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 25/03/2025Looks like the intersection between Av. de Charette & Av. du Languedoc. Fences and buildings match and there's a school right nearby 140
Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 04/02/2025Haven't read his other work but those vibes are there in The Question Concerning Technology at least 010
Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 06/12/2024Completely agreed that there's no contradiction. That was actually the finding of research I did for my senior thesis in my undergrad studying gender construction in an online trans community - a proliferation of alternative gender identities that serve to uphold the gender binary 030
Charlotte @nailofbeds.bsky.social · 02/12/2024Baffling is definitely the right word lol, watching that video was a fun compliment to my weekend of getting into listening to what's left of philosophy 010
