Plastic pollution costs small-scale fishers in Vietnam an average of $3,421 per vessel annually in damaged gear and lost catch. A proposed "fishing for litter" initiative could turn the tide, requiring just $60 per vessel per year to pay fishers for collecting marine waste. Carolyn Cowan reports.

Is this a sign of hilsa moving upstream? #Fishers in Monpura, BD recently reported better hilsa catches than the previous month, though still below previous years.are seasonal changes in the Meghna influencing hilsa distribution? Linking fisher knowledge may help us better understand these dynamics.

Char Jatin, Monpura, #Bangladesh, was once a major fishing hub, with over 100 #large boats operating in the Bay of Bengal. Today, only around 100 #small and #medium boats remain, reflecting possible declines in fish availability and rising fishing & operating costs. #conservation matters!
