One of the earliest and best lessons I learned from a #design mentor was this: no arbitrary design decisions. Every single element should have a reason for being there and a clear relationship to everything else. In other words, good design is *resolved*.

“If you put the Apple icons in reverse it looks like the portfolio of someone getting really really good at icon design” (Source: mastodon.social/@heliographe...)

Pages application icons that increasingly look better designed the longer back in time we go all the way to 2005

creating a successful business is fundamentally a design problem and people try to cover this up by pretending it’s instinct or luck

Most software should calm the fuck down, there’s no reason to have an update every week

On the topic of alt ruby frameworks, Roda has been my favorite Ruby framework for a while. I've used it in projects of all sizes. Here’s a Roda/Phlex/Sequel/esbuild template that I’ve been using to make it easier to spin up larger projects github.com/tobyond/roda...

Apparently DHH announced he’s moving to Linux and is championing it No big surprise there as there’s a sizable fraction of right-wing users of it—somewhere in the “rational-thinking, free speech, meritocracy & libertarian with a sprinkle of pseudoscience” oeuvre.

We’re consolidating Plume, Literal, Phlex, Quickdraw, Strict Ivars, Good Cop, Morphlex and various other projects under a new umbrella GitHub organisation for @yippee.fun. We’re also aiming to release our router and ORM and a secret frontend project soon. 🤞

as a dog returneth to its vomit, so does an aging rich man who has used up his one good idea decades ago try to recapture his youth by, idk, recreating the time before his one good idea existed and run it again

you won’t find Steven Pressfield promoting fashy bullshit bc his productivity advice is about understanding and accepting and working with messy human inner experience not stamping it out

why do all the productivity bros go fascist? productivity isn’t fascist in and of itself. we all love to make shit happen. but the idea that there’s some knowable, perfect, ideal key Scientific Combo to make you the perfect execution machine is an inherently fascistic idea

Shane Parrish, of Farnum Street Blog, post on X promoting the fashy Canadian candidate for PM Pierre Poilievre

text reads

Pierre Poilievre (@PierrePoilievre) shares his vision for making Canada the world's best place to build a life-with practical solutions for a more prosperous future.
TKP is not a political podcast—and won't become one. I've invited both major party leaders to share their visions because I'm deeply concerned about how public discourse has degraded into angry soundbites. We've lost the ability to explore complex issues with patience and good faith. This conversation is my small effort to model what better dialogue might look like.
