I noticed an unusual number of visitors (about 10X as many visitors) being recorded by my local WordPress analytics plugin, Koko Analytics. My server logs revealed that the likely culprit was SBInstitutionsBot/0.1, which appears to be a Japanese bot which […] [Original post on linuxrocks.online]

Pigeon building a nest in Forest Hills, Queens: A three-part photo story. As I explain in the article, I initially stopped to take a photograph of the pigeon because it was a pretty pigeon. Little did I know what it was up to when I readied my phone camera […] [Original post on linuxrocks.online]

Anime News Network posted the following question: "What is your most favorite sports anime series?" I decided to take on this question, but only if I could lie. If that hint is enough for you to guess the answer, or at least narrow it down to two […] [Original post on linuxrocks.online]

Wrapping my my recent string of classic (or replica classic) Nintendo controller on Linux posts, I discuss a snag I hit and overcame. I was playing Pokémon Red on Lutris. I configured my NES 2 controller in RetroArch. I could not figure out how to map it […] [Original post on linuxrocks.online]
Pokémon Red is running on a TV. The player is looking at a game console in the Celadon City Department store and the dialogue reads: "it's a SNES!" I am holding my NES 2 controller in front of the dialogue box to obscure the "S" in "SNES" with the joke being that I am trying to make it look like the dialogue says "It's a[n] NES" since I am playing with an original NES model 2 controller.

I am playing Pokémon Red with Lutris' Libretro core on a computer running EndeavourOS. I had been playing with a Nintendo Switch Online SNES controller, but that has more buttons than necessary for a Game Boy game. What if I could play with my original NES […] [Original post on linuxrocks.online]
I am holding an original NES model 2 controller (dogbone-shaped version, similar to SNES controller but with NES buttons and a little bit smaller) above my pink desktop computer. The controller is plugged into a Mayflash NES/SNES-to-USB adapter, which in turn is plugged into my desktop workstation. I am using this set-up to use my NES 2 controller to play games on my Linux computer.

A PSA for people running Linux 6.8 or higher: Nintendo Switch controllers, including Nintendo Switch Online controllers, are now picked up automatically. I was using my NSO SNES controller to play Pokémon Red. In this article, I discuss that and the […] [Original post on linuxrocks.online]
Photograph of a TV with the first scene of Pokémon Red on screen (twice, once in emulator and once in OBS srecording emulator). I am holding a Nintendo Switch Online SNES controller, which I am using to play Pokémon, in front of the TV to match the dialogue "JUSTIN is playing the SNES!"

I have an annual New Leaf Journal tradition of publishing an anime year-end review in late December/early January (or April in the case of my 2021 review). I plan to continue the tradition this year. While I save the actual assessments for the review, I […] [Original post on linuxrocks.online]

I reviewed an excellent visual novel localization called May Sky back in May (shock) 2022. The original Japanese game, Gogatsu no sora, was first released as a Flash game before an installable NScripter version (on which May Sky is based) was made […] [Original post on linuxrocks.online]
