Okay so this is the most I've ever harvested! So happy!! Not sure if I'm gonna make a jam or just splurge on them like candy 😋🌱

I've become such a digital minimalist that I decided to code my own website! In HTML!! Very surprised since my tech skills are almost non-existent, but it's easier than expected. Right now it looks exactly as my Ghost/Carrd did, so I'm definitely calling this one a win! 😁
Home page is a minimalist dark-blue, gray-toned background with a circular pfp in the center. Beneath it is my name (Nadia Amatullah King) and a tagline that says "author of speculative fiction and dark sci-fi." The navigation consists of only three, minimal icons with no words. The first is a crescent moon and star highlighted for the home page. The second is an open book, and the third is an artsy geometric symbol.Screenshot of the second page, showing my one fiction publication, The Black Refinery. Contains one paragraph of text and a stock image of a beach in black-and-white.

Also found a great way to reuse the book box from @shortwavebooks.bsky.social! Its been collecting dust for a year until I realized that it's a great fit for my travel art supplies!

Feels like I'm finally getting somewhere with watercolor practice! The milk thistle has been growing wildly this season. Lots of great backyard inspo! 😁

Feels good to be sketching again. I think writing has helped my art confidence grow. It helps to turn my brain off and just go with gut instinct, and that always seems to be where the good stuff is

A novelette double-feauture isn't the format I thought I needed, and I truly cannot wait to read more of the Split Scream series! Thank you @tenebrouspress.bsky.social for the digital ARC, and a special thanks to the editor(s) for a great story pairing! (3/3)

They talk about the grief of loss, but never of age. When you lose the one you love as their mind begins to fade... #poetry
Poem that reads:

01.23.25 | NK

They talk about the grief of loss, but never of age.
When you lose the one you love as their mind begins to fade.
I've said it once, twice, and three times before.
But you'll forget it again when you step out that door.
The more you step forward, the more you turn back--
to the child you once were, now in the body of Man.
The clock was too slow; the clock is too fast.
Too late for a pause; too late to make it last.
Slow down. Take a break. Take a breath. Take it slow.
Revert the clock before it's your last.
Photo of a late sunset with the sky mostly dark. Tree silhouettes poking from the dark ground across the orange-blue gradient of the sky.

Nothing to do with the poem directly, other than bittersweet goodbye.

Night scene of a driveway and small field covered in snow, with dark tree silhouettes framing the scene. Across the field is a streetlight making the snow glow and the trees backlit. Ominous yet calming.

First snow in 3 years 🥺
Snowy trail through the forest with birch trees still holding their orange leaves. Snow is partially melted already, revealing autumn leaves, meaning it won't last very long.Path is a little wider than previous photo, showing more snow. A dog is walking further up the trail. Orange leaves hang over, framing the photo.

Finished reading Bird Box and I'm pleasantly surprised at the adaptation. Malorie's character made the book for me, so the casting of Sandra Bullock was PERFECT. A quiet, yet eerie story, and the first psych horror I've felt deeply immersed in. Loved it!

Watercolor sketch of an abstract landscape. Really enjoy the moody color palette. Love how the water paint interacts with this cotton paper.
Loose abstract landscape done in watercolor.

I often feel imposter syndrome being on this platform with so much "good art" everywhere, as if there is little room for mediocrity...

But it's cathartic to create for its own sake. And this one in particular... well... I really enjoy moody color palettes.

The sky is blue-toned gray. There's a distant mountain range in dark brown-toned gray. And something like a grass field and lake combined in blues and greens - also toned with gray.Handmade leather cotton-paper journal. Purchased from a street vendor at an art/earth festival in Baltimore.

Yes it was expensive. Yes it was worth it.

Low cost but surprisingly decent quality synthetic paintbrush from Amazon. Brand is called Transon.

I'm enjoying this too much! Feels like garden bingo. 🌱 I've noticed quite a few of these beetles (and too many of the lying ladybugs 🙄). Only have these two pics though

A poem I wrote playing around with a brush pen. (See alt text)
Untitled Poem:

I'll keep you alive in my memory.
And they'll call me crazy when
I see your eyes and play make believe,
that the world is still spinning and I'm still here breathing as if
I'm not with you in the afterlife.

(Photo of my scribbly handwriting in a sketchbook using a brush pen.)

Grossly horrific, and I love every word of it. Follow @dyre.bsky.social for more
Choking you wake, unseen smoke clogging your nostrils and drying your eyes. It is thick and dark and tasteless yet it clings. Ever tightly does it cling. Dripping and running in rivulets down cheeks and chin. It is around you, on you, inside you and all the glory of dawn dies in its hold.

Another poem based on a photo prompt. Probably the creepiest I've written #horror

Tick tock tick tock
tick-tick-tick.
There is something waiting for you–
Come see! Come see!
Lost inside a fun house–
It's you! It's you!
Don't be scared!
Nothing's here!
Except the monster in your mind–
Have fun! Have fun!Rows of Japanese(?) style cat dolls with red collars and red ears sitting on a counter. Photo taken from an angle that makes them look even more eerie than it sounds. An army of cat dolls.

Persimmon season! And if you're wondering why this tree looks sad and leaf-less... goats are sweet little monsters 🌱 🐐
Two persimmon fruit in my hand. One is full and round. The other is half-eaten, showing seeds and the inner fruit.Skinny sad looking tree with no leaves, but has at least a dozen orange, almost-ripe persimmon fruit hanging in clusters.

A short poem from a photo prompt~
Liminal Planes

The softness of home & the color of sunsets
a whispering song, a breath, a moment.
Floating in the space between the ticks of the hour,
Lulled by the drift of the glassy waters.

“Long before I wrote stories, I listened for stories. Listening for them is something more acute than listening to them. I suppose it’s an early form of participation in what goes on. Listening children know stories are there. When their elders sit and begin, children are just waiting and hoping for one to come out, like a mouse from its hole.”
