Glad to finally find my own eggs of the hoverfly Parasyrphus nigritarsis (white) amongst Green Dock Beetle eggs (yellow). In a few days, the hoverfly eggs will hatch first and feed on the dock beetle eggs and larva (second image from a few weeks ago).
On a background of a green dock leaf, several dozen orange/yellow elongated eggs are grouped together. To the side, two white eggs are nearby. On a green dock leaf, small black larvae are grouped together. Amongst them, three larger pale larva.

The Puffins have returned to Rathlin! Just the one this morning but hopefully the continuing calm weather brings more back in the coming days. Coincidentally found this puffin-shaped rock later in the day!

Dramatic scenes at the Rue this afternoon with waves crashing 15m+ off the rocks and winds over 50mph. Few birds around with the ones present battling the gales making slow progress along the coast. Common gulls, Oystercatchers, Greater Black-backed Gulls, Gannets, and Shags braving the elements.

Glad to finally be back on Rathlin! Looking forward to the season ahead. Still no puffins with the current weather but expecting them in the next few days. Plenty of kittiwakes rafting nearby and fulmars scattered along the cliffs

The season is over! Had an amazing time at Cemlyn with @zspaull.bsky.social this summer. This video I made covers some of the highlights along with a blog we wrote which is more in depth. Really excited about the future of the Roseate Terns at Cemlyn after the two pairs attempting this season 🐦
