Oxygen Destroyer - Sinister Monstrosities Spawned by the Unfathomable Ignorance of Humankind. If you like Godzilla and other Kaiju movies, check these dudes out and especially go see them live, I got to see them perform to the film “Gamera” and it was dope as hell

See You Next Tuesday put together this amazing project along with the Red Chord, meth., and Nights Like These. Amazing concept and recording process behind the album, highly recommend reading up on it and listening to the track “Pulled From Flesh”

Conan - Violence Dimension. I fucking love this album. I fucking love this band, saw them twice touring behind this record. God tier live shows. 4 stars - go home and tell your mother you’re brilliant.

Pelican - The Fire in Our Throats Shall Beckon the Thaw. Picture perfect post-metal.

Craig Finn - We All Want the Same Things. Every adult should listen to the beautiful, introspective album about living as an adult human being in America. Emotionally hitting, but light and fun at times. 5 stars.

I never ever ever thought I’d get to own GIRLFRIENDS on vinyl. An absolute classic underground album, the band just got repressed within the last few weeks! Overjoyed to have this in my collection!

Got a new phone and took several days to log back into the socials (and deleted Facebook while I was at it) so here’s the most recent spins!

Some folks find Behemoth cheesy, but I think The Satanist is the best black metal record ever made. A masterpiece of production & thematic song writing; they’ve literally been banned by governments from performing, which is kinda awesome to see them not want to tone things down for anyone.

The Hotelier - Home, Like NoPlace There Is. Let’s get fucking SAD yall.

El Ten Eleven is INCREDIBLE live. Picked up a copy of Its Still Like A Secret when I saw them. So so good; gorgeous chill vibes abound from this insanely talented duo.

The last time I’ll spin this - in the middle of my laying the record, found out they are currently being huge trans phobes. Trans homies deserve protection from old dumb dumbs. Forget this band.

Caustic Wound’s Grinding Mechanisms of Torment is an incredible metal release. Every song fucks. 6 songs out of 5.

Mystery Owl @mysteryowl.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

Signs of the Swarm has some great older material, with Amongst the Low & Empty being the best of it IMO. If you enjoy Deathcore, this is a solid album from an excellent live band.

More Cheekface. I nearly came home with 6 LPs, but stopped at 2 (for now)

Mystery Owl @mysteryowl.bsky.social · 02/09/2026

Cheekface is like CAKE and They Might Be Giants had a baby who’s unhappy about the government. Earworms abound, their songs will get stuck in your head for days — “The Weather” and “I Don’t Work Here” are the strongest tracks on an album of straight bangers.

El Ten Eleven’s self titled album is the first album I ever played on a turntable. Still an absolute gorgeous production of chilled out, loopy electronic/indie rock instrumental deliciousness. Cannot wait to FINALLY see them with my wife at GASA GASA next Sunday night!

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Slow Riot for New Zero Kanada “Blaize Bailey Finnegan III” is maybe the single best recording I’ve ever heard. Blessed to have seen Godspeed twice - absolutely beautiful and unique compositions

The Barbarians of California - Megatons Banger after banger. 5 stars 🌟. Kinda music that gets the adrenaline going!

Creeping Death - Boundless Domain This album is amazing, I didn’t give it enough time when I first got it. Fixing that now, third spin in a row.

000

Mystery Owl @mysteryowl.bsky.social · 19/08/2026

Their/They’re/There - Their/They’re/Three Enjoy the twinkly finger tapped guitar, mathy riffage, and soaring vocals.

020

Mystery Owl @mysteryowl.bsky.social · 18/08/2026

Slaughter Beach, Dog - Birdie Always good to add more grad A acoustic driven indie rock to the library. Pretty OK and Acolyte are my stand outs

000

Mystery Owl @mysteryowl.bsky.social · 18/08/2026

Are you listening to Hit by Hit from Second Grade? No? Go put on the song “Velodrome” right now. Thank me after :)

Mystery Owl @mysteryowl.bsky.social · 17/08/2026

Adults making music about Adult problems is my favorite genre - these folk punk women make some gnarly sad woman acoustic punk. If this isn’t in your rotation, it should be, plus they send cute notes when you buy their album, a nice touch I see from a lot of bands not signed to any label.

000

Mystery Owl @mysteryowl.bsky.social · 12/08/2026

A rockier successor to the jazzy Goths, the Mountain Goats new album well worth your time, especially if you grew up with 90s/2000s pop culture. Fun as heck album, Shallow Grave and Woodstock are early stand outs, along with Candlebox getting a lot of love (including from Candlebox themselves)

000

Mystery Owl @mysteryowl.bsky.social · 11/08/2026

Cryptopsy is some A+ quality technical metal

000

Mystery Owl @mysteryowl.bsky.social · 06/08/2026

Agriculture - Life is Easy / The Circle Chant. If you aren’t listening to this band yet, you should fix that.

XIU MF XIU (volume 1) - all covers, all crazyish, all amazing.

000

Mystery Owl @mysteryowl.bsky.social · 04/08/2026

NO CURE - IT IS GOING TO GET DARK Best album from them yet, one of the best produced/mixed metal or hardcore albums I’ve ever heard. AMAZING LIVE BAND TOO

My beautiful, brilliant wife acquired this for our second anniversary! A great gift from the greatest treasure in the world! Cake - Comfort Eagle

Red Sparrowes - At the Soundless Dawn, one of the absolute best records from the early 2000s post-rockexplosion. You don’t hear enough slide guitar (possibly a lap steel, I did not look it up) in instrumental rock/metal music.

000

Mystery Owl @mysteryowl.bsky.social · 13/07/2026

AJJ - Live at Third Man records. AJJ plays their entire first album and the crowd sings along for every word. Amazing live show captured here.

Mystery Owl @mysteryowl.bsky.social · 09/07/2026

They Might Be Giants’s new album, “The World is to Dig,” is excellent. Best tracks are “Character Flaw” and “Wu-Tang.” I need more TMBG records!

Chained to the Bottom of the Ocean - these folks named themselves after a Thou song for a reason. “Let us not speak of them, but look and pass on” is incredible. Absolute banger of a record from to back.

The Residents - Metal, Meat, and Bone. An incredible later album, worth the price of admission for the bonus record of the “original Dyin’ Dog demos” that are essentially an old blues record from the Residents. Frank Black of the Pixies performs guest vocals on the album proper, on “Die die die”

000

Mystery Owl @mysteryowl.bsky.social · 06/07/2026

Brian Sella’s first solo album, Well I Mean, got another contender for album of the year right here. Amazing Indy/folk album, almost no percussion, but tons of horns 🎺 🎺

Tera Melos - X’ed Out Mostly chill, very mathy, some Kate Bush influence in the instrumental section. Excellent listen!
