I need to spend time with some digital art courses. The moment I go to color and shade art I immediately start to hate it. One of the reasons I find 3D art appealing is that it's no longer my responsibility to shade things. I just set the base colors and materials, and the renderer does the rest.

She does look amazing! 💛 Dragons wear width and weight well. I always think of them as experts in indulgence, and what you're drawing reads as indulgence in curves and softness! It's always a challenge to think of how everything connects and fits though. We are very complicated! 🐉

Yeah, I'm going to separate them out. What I sketched is way too busy and disorganized. There's also a few things that just look off. I've switched over to making a new feral quadruped 3D model for myself. Been meaning to do it for years. It'll serve as a new reference when ready.

This is a very clever and unique idea. I love it! A dragon who is self-conscious about their tail so they use magic or enchanted artifacts to make it look bigger than it really is. Every dragon loves a thick and sturdy tail! 👀

The only concern I'd have with this is that it's not competing for space with the butt. There's no squish between the cheeks and tail. This makes it look glued on or something. If that's the look you're going for then it works! Personally, I think the butt and legs flank the tail so squish needed.

If I were drawing this I'd raise and widen the top of the tail to be even with what appears to be the "butt shelf" lines just above. Then enlarge the rest of the tail mostly towards the right to make it appear thicker. The problem with dragon tails is they look good thick, but also cover up stuff!

The large dragon avatars I've made for VRC have triangular tails (with rounded edges) where they connect to the back and compete for space with the butt. The tails become fully normally round once they've cleared the butt. It's hard to fit everything in!

Is it better to combine feral and anthro into the same ref sheet or should I separate them? I drew a combined ref sheet and I think it's too busy, disorganized. I was disappointed with what I sketched, but then also pleased that I finally made art again... so not a waste of time. I'm trying!

I think belly buttons add a lot to the shape, curves, and sense of softness for a large belly. Some people try to argue that they don't belong on scalies, but I think anthro body structure demands them since they're one of the "skin staple" areas that always form body creases.

Yes. Fursuiting and VRChat are big things pushing me towards 4 digits instead of 5 per paw. 5 seems to be the IRL standard, but I've come to know an increasing number of species that have less than 5. 4 feels like the sweet spot for me. Less neural load, better durability, and same grip. 👍

Chunkier and able to handle weight better. 👍 I like the 5 digits because of redundancy, but they do kind of feel dainty when I'm in VR or fursuiting. 4 feels like they'd be sturdier and better able to handle weight, strain, and other everyday challenges.

I do like having dewclaws/thumbs on my paws! I have to imagine they are very important to flighted dragons both for grabbing/picking up things and for holding on to certain surfaces. I think my natural habitat is coastal ocean cliffs, so grip is extremely important especially to a large beast.

Blue and gold contrast each other very well. I have to imagine dragons would love to flaunt their gold especially to draw attention to certain parts of their body (curves in this case!). She looks amazing and love the soft, plush, regal vibe she gives off. 👀💛

That whole "it isn't profitable _enough_" thing tends to affect the kind of tech you're talking about. That line of thinking always drives me crazy. It doesn't help when smaller companies that thrive making those sorts of products get acquired by larger companies too. >_<

Yeah, I've been going with proper thumbs on my front paws and thumb-like grabbers on my back paws. So, 3 main fingers/toes per paw plus the thumbs/grabbers. I figure that lets me carry and pick up things easier when in flight.

I haven't drawn a ref sheet for myself in a very long time. I've been working on a new one and there's one thing I keep thinking about: How many digits for the fingers and toes? I've always gone with 5 in the past, but I think I prefer 4 now. Fewer means each one is thicker and stronger.

Bleh. I think I have an infected / abscessed tooth. My center right lower incisor tooth has been bothering me for over a week now. I no longer think I did something to it or that this is some sort of anxiety or stress reaction. I've never had this experience before. Getting it checked tomorrow. 😨

A lot of today's furry pilots grew up watching TaleSpin -- a Disney show that had a huge variety of species flying aircraft. Most pilots I know are birds, griffons, dragons, and bats with an innate interest in flight, but I wouldn't discount the ability of a bear or wolf fur to pilot an aircraft!

Oh, good point. Are the devious Magpie traits enough to cancel out the Avali's pureness? Not sure why I consider Avalis to be pure/innocent. It's probably because I see them as the opposite of the chaotic/guilty Kobolds.
