A black and white photograph of our black cat, Fella, lying on his side on the floor. He is facing the camera; his head resting on the floor; his eyes focused directly on the viewer. He is lying in a small puddle of sunlight streaming in from a high window through a stair railing creating segmented light and shadow from the stair balusters.

. Another view of tonight’s Southern California coastal sunset. . #sunset #photography #SoCal #silhouette

A color photograph of the distant sunset, obscured by a semi-transparent layer of clouds and showing its last light with a reflected glow on a thick bank of low clouds. A thin line of fuchsia at the horizon spreads upwards to the color of ballet slippers and into shades of azure, darkening to trypan blue.

. “If you look long enough into the void, the void begins to look back through you.” -Friedrich Nietzsche . (A photograph of Fella - one of my favorite voids) . #cats #void #B&W #blackcat #photography

A close-up photograph of Fella, one of our rescue cats. He is solid black, sitting in a sunny window looking directly at the camera. The background is a white wall reflecting the bright sun and creating an exposure that is monochromatic image – a featureless, black silhouette of cat’s head and shoulders against a white background.

#throwbackThursday 06June2006 I trapped them living inside the large and incredibly loud HVAC enclosure of a 12-story office building. We adopted the family into our home - safe, warm and fed. They all became deaf due of the damage caused by the noise in that enclosure. #cats #rescue #kittens

A color photograph of a tabby, momma cat sitting sphinx-like on a purple and brown towel, looking at the camera through squinted eyes. Curled up around her in a cozy mass of fur are her four kittens – a tipped (dilute) calico, a dark gray tabby, a solid black shorthair and a black calico.

Today was a gorgeous day for a long mountain bike ride on the single-track, hill-trails around the Palos Verdes Peninsula in Southern California. The views are breathtaking. I do not often stop to admire the view, but today I did. #photography #landscape #mountainbiking #palosverdes

A color photograph of the Santa Monica Bay in Southern California from a narrow trail that traverses the north face of the wooded hills of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. In the foreground is my mountain bike positioned on the narrow dirt path leaning against an old, downed tree trunk. The view of the bay is framed by trees and brush, the blue water edged by a gentle curving coastline more than 20 miles long through nearly a dozen beach cities. The sky, the same color as the ocean, is painted with soft, white puffy clouds.

. Sun halo this afternoon. . The wispy, low clouds and vapor trails gave it a 3 dimensional, almost, planetary look. . #photography #astronomical #sky #sun #clouds #sunhalo

$A color photograph of the early afternoon sun in an otherwise blue sky, creating its own halo effect with light refracting through the ice crystals of high-altitude cloud vapor. Lower, wispy clouds and a faint diagonal vapor trail creates an almost 3-dimensional image of a semi-transparent, planetary sphere with Saturn-like rings as seen edge-on.$

The cats are spaced randomly apart – the closest one, a black cat with brilliant green, hooded eyes is close to the camera, his face filling a third of the frame. A second cat, a Tuxedo cat is sitting a couple of feet to the side and behind the black cat and is slightly out of the sharp focus range. A black & white photograph, reminiscent of a noir-style crime drama characterized by cynical attitudes of morally ambiguous characters, and a dark, shadowy visual style. The image is of our cat sitting on a wood floor with his back to the camera but with his head and shoulders twisted around to look directly at the lens. The only lighting is from an open-shuttered window creating well defined, lined shadows crossing floor on which the dark silhouette of the cat sits.
