"They're not misunderstanding the film; they're co-opting a message"

Screencap from the interview linked in the quoted post

Marlow Stern (the interviewer): You have one of the most renowned replies in Twitter history. Elon Musk tweeted out, “Take the red pill,” then Ivanka Trump enthusiastically wrote, “Taken!” to him, and then you replied, “Fuck both of you.” I’m curious how you feel about the co-opting of “The Matrix” by those on the right who don’t really seem to understand its messaging.

Lilly Wachowski: I mean, I can’t sit in a room and explain the movie to every single person who watches it. Even if I did sit in a room with Elon Musk and Ivanka Trump — yikes — it doesn’t matter. They’re not misunderstanding the film; they’re co-opting a message. And that’s what fascists do: They co-opt the messages of progressives and use it to their benefit to confuse and obfuscate what is going on and the intention of their ideology. They do it with everything. They do it with Martin Luther King Jr. Look at how they’ve changed the idea of what antisemitism is.

Word of mouth is basically the only way small team projects can gain any traction. People hate ads with a passion, and ignore creators when they pitch their own work. But people will give something a chance when a person they know says they like something

yes mr of the torch please do illuminate the way to everyone's satisfaction (i have so many favorite panels in WHA and i absolutely can't resist redrawing them in my style oTZ this one is from chapter 39!) #WHA #WitchHatAtelier #WHAMangaSpoilers

a sketchy digital semi-realistic re-draw of a panel from chapter 39 of Witch Hat Atelier, picturing Oruggio standing on one knee with his hands clasped and folded to the side in the setting's traditional greeting gesture. he is depicted as a man of average build in his late twenties/early thirties, with short straight dark hair falling over his eyes and a somewhat unkempt goatee. he is dressed in a loose shirt with long billowing sleeves tied up just below his elbows, a long dark skirt and a heavy hooded cloak, and he is wearing his tasseled witch cap. his face is lined with exhaustion, but his smile is warm. the two speech bubbles belonging to him read "If you would be so kind as to assist us, I believe I could illuminate the way to everyone's satisfaction".

If you'd like to help the indie community, support the people over at Comic Fury, Spider Forest, Comic Rocket, Webcomic Library, Webcomic Travelogue, Comix Cleric- and many more. Check out those places for webcomic resources and to keep things creator owned. That was the whole point of webcomics.
