Small emperor moth (Saturnia pavonia). Female, bigger, top left. Male, smaller, on the right.

Some pets are unusual. :) Once, I found many caterpillars on wild blackberry by the roadside just before it was mowed. I gathered them & fed them cherry plum leaves from our garden. 100% of them became adult moths by spring! #Saturniapavonia #moths #nature #wildlife

Baby dormice were falling from our garage roof. With the rescue center full, I became a temporary mom to 3 of them and felt like Gerald Durrell again. After feeding, they'd fall asleep in my hand, showing off their magnificent whiskers! #wildliferescue #dormouse #nature

A close-up, bottom-up view of a tiny newborn fat dormouse (Glis glis) sleeping peacefully, cradled in a gloved human hand.

The baby animal's face is pointed upward, showing a tiny, furry white and pinkish chin, a small nose, and an open, sleepy mouth with tiny front teeth visible. Most strikingly, incredibly long, delicate, and fan-like whiskers (vibrissae) spray out widely in all directions from its snout.

Its miniature, pink, human-like paw with tiny claws gently rests on the dark blue fabric of the gloved hand. The background is a soft, solid magenta-purple. The photo captures a tender moment of wildlife rescue.
