Fair… not sure why my brain doesnt equate the two 🤔 when I have a document that’s super long, I was taught to put a “focus area” section at the top of docs that helps direct readers based on roles they might fall into

#triggered still a thing? God I don’t miss those days.

Definitely seeing lots of docs… length is usually a good indicator for me to ask questions like “have you read through this already” or “is there a specific area you’d like me to focus on”. That usually gets the ball rolling. i don’t think shorter is the goal, but how succinct you are

Anyone know of a good tool to encrypt data and store on flash drives? I wrote a simple tool that works the way I want it to, but curious what else is out there (beyond the obvious web search).

Don’t attend. Let poor attendance and loss of financials speak for themselves.

Massive protest at Children’s National in DC. A former patient is speaking who they used in promotional to show how much they care about trans kids. Now the hospital is one of a small few nationwide complying with trumps unlawful EO to end trans care.

The Internet Archive has to date downloaded 500 terabytes of US government websites, which it crawls at the end of every presidential term. The whole archive is fully searchable. This effort's housed by a donation-funded nonprofit, not a branch of the US government. blog.archive.org/2024/05/08/e...

I look at Ollama a lot like I look at docker (at least it’s early days)… free, easy to use, and accessible from a number of languages but not necessarily the best* implementation out there

On day one Trump's EO said we were harmful to kids. On day two, it said we were dishonorable and disloyal. On day three, it said we were unAmerican. Transgender people have been a part of this country for centuries. We are not going anywhere. Do not comply with these EOs, they are not law.

I feel this. 💜 One of the best things I learned last year was to create a sensory safety and recovery plan. It’s helped me with a few really rough days

Definitely! I started on the dev side of the world before doing DevOps and understanding the DevOps tooling made me far more effective at building the product. I could work out issues and find mitigations before reporting a bug, which usually led to faster times across the team.

Heres the thing… it works! My cohorts had no issue understanding the code (we did Java and C too). We could take an idea to production in a few hours. Divesting ourselves of language and framework elitism is worth the effort. If you find yourself say “… sucks”, try and find an actual reason.

PHP was my first server side language. I used it to build sites for local small businesses in town. I used it to build video streaming software before YouTube. I used it to customize drupal and Wordpress for clients. I used it to build my first start up. I was frequently criticized for it.

Synthetics are great! Much stronger than cotton and other natural fibers. Be sure to double up your frictions on synthetic rope since they tend to slip more, especially with suspensions. (I have a good mix in my collection)
