today in recent fb marketplace finds: a grip of Wizard Magazine centerfolds circa 1997-1998 plus two appropriately-sized Ikea frames for $40 total. there's also a Fantastic Four one but it sucks so bad i won't post it. i'm framing the last two, though.

Superman Red/Superman Blue by Dan Jurgens and Brett Breeding, from that weird period when Superman was an energy being, then he was two energy beings.

DC's Justice League, by Alex Ross. Alex Ross is fine, i guess, if you're the kind of person who views static photorealism as the raison d'etre of illustrative art.

you know them, you love them, they're the stars of page and screen, the heroes of Amalgam Comics! by Rodolfo Damaggio and Karl Kesel. i have what you might call a perfectly normal and reasonable amount of interest in Amalgam Comics.

Boy, Jack Frost, Ragged Robin, King Mob, and Lord Fanny: the titular Invisibles, by the inimitable Phil Jimenez, one of the best to ever do it.

3. around 1980, Chaosium cut a deal wth the now-long-defunct Reston Publishing to get a hardcover editon of RuneQuest into bookstores alongside AD&D. i didn't find out about this hardcover edition until 2010 or so. the first copy i got off eBay was bound with the signatures out of order.

a hardcover edition of RuneQuest 2nd edition, with the dust jacket in a protective library-style cover. on the cover, the famous Luise Perrin illustration of a woman warrior armored in a Greco-Roman-style bronze breastplate and crested helm, a sword raised to strike the green, anthropoid lizard-beast she is holding off with a large bronze shield that the lizard-beast is chewing on. the medallion on her armor bears the hourglass-shaped Life rune, which represents the cup from which all creation was poured. yes i had to look that up.

2. i found this copy of the Corgi Books edition of Tunnels & Trolls on the grungy shelves of the local dimly-lit android's dungeon about thirty years back, around the same time i was playing T&T: Crusaders of Khazan on PC. the solo adventures came from eBay and Flying Buffalo decades later.

1. one saturday morning after work about fifteen years ago i drove to a McDonald's two hours out of state to meet a sketchy older dude and slip him two $20 bills in exchange for a battered plastic shopping bag containing a stack of his late brother's 1974-era original D&D booklets

a comb-bound book with a silver cover. the title is Chainmail; the subtitle reads "rules for medieval miniatures by Gary Gygax & Jeff Perren". the cover has a blackline illustration of a sword-wielding, horse-mounted Templar knight in a tabard and pot helmet in battle with pointy-helmeted sword-and-board Saracen warriors.

i have eaten the soup dumplings from trader joe's that expired in july and had been in the work freezer since last year forgive me but the person who bought them probably doesn't even work here anymore

a dozen delicious soup dumplings in plastic trays on a cheap paper plate, plus one of the boxes they came in. on the lower right corner of the box is a small container of ponzu sauce that came with the gyoza i ordered for delivery last Saturday. this photo was taken for my continuous glucose monitor food log app.

my introduction to Dredd was via the Games Workshop RPG, but i think my first 2000 AD story was The Ballad of Halo Jones, probably about fifteen years later.

the 1998 hardcover edition of the Games Workshop Judge Dredd roleplaying game. Dredd rides his wide-wheeled motorcycle towards the viewer, firing his lawgiver pistol into the upper left distance. he's flanked by two more motorcycle-riding Judges on either side. in the background are enormous buildings, city blocks housing thousands of inhabitants each.
