Never having been to Greenbelt I'm much less affected by their attempt to platform Lewis than many others. On the other hand I've been hoping to be able to get to it for several years, and this response to criticism of their decision is deeply disappointing.

With regret and apology from us, Helen Lewis will no longer be speaking at this year's festival.

Following her inclusion in our first lineup names, we received some pushback from our LGBTQ community. We listened carefully and we talked about what we should do.

We went back to Helen with a revised pitch for her involvement which we hoped might enable us still to explore her ideas in the New Gurus and The Genius Myth (which is why we'd asked her to come to Greenbelt) but also make space to discuss her writing on gender - all in conversation with a longtime trans Greenbelter.

It wasn't what she'd signed up for, or why we had initially invited her and, understandably, Helen declined our reshaped invitation. We regret putting Helen in this difficult position.

Right now, there isn't much more to say other than sorry to all those we've hurt and that we are committed to learning and doing better.

We know we have damaged the hard-earned trust of some LGBTQ Greenbelters, and our trans community in particular. We are committed to rebuilding that trust.

There was one cable we didn’t cover up. There were only a few centimetres of it, and it was much too thin for the tubing we had. “It’ll be fine,” we said to each other, fools that we were. Today when we woke up the WiFi was down. After some time investigating, my partner noticed this plug.

A plug with less than a centimetre of cable remaining. It has been industriously chewed through.

One of these cats is much easier to photograph than the other by virtue of being so extremely cuddly.

Melkor has been so good and sweet and affectionate today that I almost think he knows that he’s due to be neutered tomorrow and is hoping to get out of it by good behaviour.

Some trees manage to look magnificent when they’ve shed their leaves, and I think this is one of them. How lovely.
