Greenhouse gas emissions rose 0.7% to reach a record 54 billion tons of CO2 equivalent in 2025 - United States increased by 2.2% - Chinese emissions rose 0.1% - Indian emissions fell 0.2% - EU’s emissions fell by 0.2% #ClimateChange joint-research-centre.ec.europa.eu/jrc-news-and...
The United States registered the largest absolute rise worldwide, increasing emissions by +2.2% compared to 2024.
For the first time, China and India maintained or reduced their emission levels (+0.1% and -0.2%).
Reductions were observed across major contributors. Six of the 16 major emitters (contributing over 1% of global emissions) achieved reductions in 2025, including Australia, Brazil and Japan.
The EU reduced its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (excluding LULUCF) by 0.2% relative to 2024, achieving a 35.6% total reduction from 1990 levels. The EU's share of global total emissions declined further to 5.8%. Additionally, the EU GHG emissions per capita (7.1 t CO2eq/cap) continued their decline towards the global average value (6.6 t CO2eq/cap). Note that the EDGAR figures have a different basis than those used to track progress towards EU targets, based on the EU GHG Inventory.

And Huxley’s “Island” from 1962, about a beautiful stable island with happy people that is threatened due to oil reserves…. Then there’s Brave New World, 1932, a world of expensive leisure activities, drugs to keep people passive & discusses whether‘friction’ is an important part of living
Blurb: For over a hundred years the Pacific island of Pala has been the scene of a unique experiment in civilisation. Its inhabitants live in a society where Western science has been brought together with Eastern philosophy to create a paradise on earth. When a cynical journalist, Will Farnaby, arrives to research potential oil reserves on Pala, he quickly falls in love with the way of life on the island. Soon the need to complete his mission becomes an intolerable burden and he must make a difficult choice.

Maybe #Eurostar needs to develop a software solution for rebooking tickets on the following train after they have cancelled the train they were travelling on? Rather than queuing for the two available desks…..

Reminder of what the #Brexit referendum question was: "Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union or leave the European Union? 1) Remain a member of the European Union 2) Leave the European Union" - no mention of dynamic alignment etc etc etc ukandeu.ac.uk/the-facts/wh...

The power of well-crated html: "What makes this piece so effective is its plain language and its information density. This density is a real strength of hypertext that is often overlooked and taken for granted. Only 110 words in that paragraph but it contains 27 links" kottke.org/24/11/the-po...
You already know Donald Trump. He is unfit to lead. Watch him. Listen to those who know him best. He tried to subvert an election and remains a threat to democracy. He helped overturn Roe, with terrible consequences. Mr. Trump’s corruption and lawlessness go beyond elections: It’s his whole ethos. He lies without limit. If he’s re-elected, the G.O.P. won’t restrain him. Mr. Trump will use the government to go after opponents. He will pursue a cruel policy of mass deportations. He will wreak havoc on the poor, the middle class and employers. Another Trump term will damage the climate, shatter alliances and strengthen autocrats. Americans should demand better. Vote.

“We turned the Caribbean into industrial sugar plantations with the enslaved. On top of that, we still go there and poach their health workers. On top of that, we didn’t give them money [when Britain left] to set up proper health systems. A lot of that is clearly our fault”
