I found a way to make agents do all types of things in PowerBI (even screenshot the report to evaluate dashboard) and I could not be more happier to automate this task for me holy shit.

This is a good litmus test to tell if someone is Bayesian enough: do you know who this is?

Companies with legacy, on-premise tech will be anti-cloud then depend their EnTiRe business on servers that have 1/10th the processing power of a typical middle schoolers gaming rig.

I guess I’m too risk averse to allow the possibility of that? Of just skill issues. I usually have it run through steps and tell it to stop if it has any doubts directionally. I think herdr (a multiplexer for agents) would be good for managing zombie sessions.

After using a multiplexer, it makes you wish it was the default behavior in any terminal.

I just added CFB a few days ago, but NFL is more mature. You can see how weird points posteriors look in football for this upcoming game: gameplan-science.com/nfl/game/202...

Mason Veilleux @mveilleux.com · 06/09/2026
I don’t have points posterior distributions yet for CFB but per drive basis, it was a coin flip match. (and looking at this I think I fucked up and diffed by log scale)

I had a matchup tab where you could do game simulations for any team-season-off/def but that the sims were running on the server and I wanted to offload this somehow. I figured out you can run JAX in the browser so it’s all client side. Or just might write the simulation in typescript…

I’ve been hacking away at web performance for the last couple of weeks. All running from my Pi through a Cloudflare tunnel (heavily CF cached haha).

I’ve been mostly sharing my development progress on Twitter for gameplan-science.com, but it’s been a fun journey in web design, performance, and Bayesian inference, computation.

Setting up Neovim for Stan in 2026
Inspired by @WardBrian’s recent similar post for Emacs, I wanted to highlight that writing Stan code in Neovim is better than it has ever been! The screenshot below shows off some of the features; ...

And like a good portion of applicants are lower 48 companies and big consulting firms writing whatever applications they can to get an easy bag. (Obviously there are a good amount of good applications but there is not 4.75B worth of projects in Alaska). I’d be surprised if half of it gets spent.

> Rs write in rules and stipulations that would allow tribes (the largest health providers in Alaska) to be liable for mis-appropriation of funds and blah blah blah. Tribes will never allow their sovereignty to be compromised. So money just sits.

Just the biggest switcheroo: > Murkowski finally concedes to vote for Trump’s spending cuts — cuts to Medicare which Alaska greatly depends on > Murkowski and Trump along with Alaskans write in the bill for 5B in Rural Transformation funds (per capita is absolutely bonkers money)

Mason Veilleux @mveilleux.com · 18/08/2026
There is 5B waiting to be spent in Alaska, you just need to open yourself up to the Feds auditing you (which no one wants to do (on principle) so most of it won’t even be allocated)

My sense is that there is a principal-agent problem here where developers are less budget-aware than they ought to be. Given the right incentives/ choice architecture and combination of tools (Claude + DeepSeek e.g), these costs would decrease tremendously.

It’s at least a good starting point for my agent to widdle down the best restaurants by cuisine in a given city
000
Mason Veilleux @mveilleux.com · 09/08/2026
Cool. So now I can ask my Hermes agent to make a dataset of Google reviews of restaurants and then it runs this model to give me the top picks.

Here is how the prior reduces noisy reviews
000
Mason Veilleux @mveilleux.com · 09/08/2026
Okay so with the prior that scales with the size of reviews, I think I got something going.

Mason Veilleux @mveilleux.com · 09/08/2026
Basically went from simple binomial, to holy balls hierarchical ordered logistic with contamination adjustment on 5-star ratings, now just back to binomial with a bunch of added noise .. I love statistics

Legit had a dream (nightmare) last night that I kept opening the Bing search of the file I was looking for on Windows instead of the actual file.
000
Mason Veilleux @mveilleux.com · 07/08/2026
So 1. Getting the data is so easy holy smokes, no need for an API. 2. There’s some obvious contamination in 5 star reviews so there’s some de-biasing we gotta do.

Then I can tell Hermes to find me the best restaurant by keyword / cuisine / distance from me.
000
Mason Veilleux @mveilleux.com · 07/08/2026
Playwright will search Google Maps’ reviews of restaurants and read the page’s DOM with JavaScript so it gets the number of stars (I have all stars but just do a hierarchical binomial for each restaurant but maybe I’ll do an ordered logistic later)…
