Our approach to drawing a crushed goomba is very similar, as evidenced by this 2012 doodle.

Here's a 2024 T-shirt design imagining a meeting between Fox Mulder and Batman, designed as merch for Gamefully Unemployed's Podcast 'Fox Mulder is a Maniac'. gamefully-unemployed.creator-spring.com/listing/squi...
Fox Mulder from the X-Files attacking Batman with a wooden stake as both Dana Scully and Robin look on in abject horror. A big 'SQUISH' sound effect reminiscent of those used in Batman '66. Minor gore, but it looks like ketchup. Designed for Gamefully Unemployed.

I swear, once you familiarize yourself with her work, you'll see her influence across the whole comics industry. I see echoes of her art in the work of such comic book titans as Bill Sienkiewicz as well as in the more painterly work of artists like Sam Keith.

Jones's contributions to comics were also stunning (even though I'm too dumb to understand them). I have a copy of IDYL-I'M AGE at home and every page is a masterclass in black and white comic illustration. Seriously beautiful.

Its hard to articulate what it is about her work that resonates with me so much. The above images aren't the best examples to be honest. I think its that her work was often so wonderfully moody. Look at this lonely image. I couldn't ever load my brushes with this much emotion.

It's very weird to me that London has this unearned reputation for being foggy when there are entire weeks where Manhattan looks like this. I'd like all of the out of towners to guess which of these three ia a photo of the Empire State Building.

Name a show you're positive no one remembers but you. I'm sure I have you all beat with this fever dream. I only know it exists because I stole the DVD on my last day of work for Virgin Megastore in 2004. I tried to buy it, but they had no record of it in the system. Like it never existed.

Give it a chance, you might enjoy it. #comic #art
An old timey newspaper comic strip about a superhero with a supernatural mastery of hands. The character is named 'Handy-Man', he looks kind of silly. He's facing off against a villain with a star for a head. The villain is named Starface, but it's actually an Italian surname pronounced 'Starfatchy'. That's not in the comic, just a fun fact. Go on, give it a read. What's the worst that can happen? Comics don't really rot brains or corrupt the youth, that whole 10 Cent Plague panic was way overblown. Still, this probably would have been approved by the comics code, there's nothing weird in there that you couldn't show a kid, I promise. You'll be fine. Just read it. Jesus.

Pointing the finger at people of colour instead of corner-cutting moneyed interests is stupid for a bunch of reasons, but it's worth pointing out that black women were building Boeing planes back when they were staying in one piece and up in the sky where they belong.

I can't remember the last time I enjoyed anything as much as my pet turtle enjoys the wine-glass-cleaner I installed as a back-scratcher.

My hope here is that some artist got paid a lot to fuck with them. Like when they got people to design Gavin Belson's signature in Silicon Valley.

When I first saw this ad a couple of weeks ago, I thought 'that's entrapment'. When I took this photo today I thought that the fact this hasn't inspired a single dick's worth of graffiti speaks to something fundamentally dead in the soul of my neighborhood.

I should re-introduce myself. I'm Michael, or some people call me 'MVB', because there are too many Michaels and I sign things with my initials. I draw, I sometimes write. I used to make weird niche indie comics and now I mostly make weird paintings. I did art for all those podcasts you like.

BIG PHARMA! I'm posting art until people respond to something, damnit. This is probably my favourite personal piece. It took me about half a day, start to finish. It was going to be the first of a series called 'American Religion', but every other piece I started felt like it'd been done already.

'Atom Bomb Baby', 2020. Original piece, started as a warm up and got carried away. Figured I'd try posting some art here and see how that goes.
Anthropomorphic baby atom bomb, baby.
