www.youtube.com/watch?v=4olL... Few bands have discovered or mined the sonics of well-produced, pre-grunge "modern rock." The choruses and final ring-out here are so specific in their invocation of big-name alternative records from '89/'90. Total aesthetic dog whistle.

When I hear, "I can't believe this was X years ago," it often feels exactly X years ago. Maybe it's down to how raising kids marks time; "last year" is definitive and constant in grade school. But also I can't believe this was 15 years ago. www.youtube.com/watch?v=GT_N...

Didn't everyone flip the Last Splash CD booklet over at the time? The tray art and spine were color-coded to the back-of-booklet image. The deluxe LSXX edition resolves the different impulses well, but the pastel Go-Go's shots are what I remember, not the admittedly iconic heart image. #cdfriday

#cdfriday Early copies of Seam's The Problem With Me were printed on matte paper and the CD was a slightly darker tone.

Showtime remains a masterpiece. An enormously significant record in my teenage pursuit of new sounds. Unlike NE's crossover contemporaries, there is little connective tissue with rock: Showtime is both the definitive and final word on EBM. After the big singles, search "Rope" and "My Heart."

I was 15 when the pilot for Twin Peaks premiered. I cried when it ended. Everyone who saw it could sense the shared experience the next day at school. Generational dialog is cheap, but it was an enormously significant moment in a lot of lives.

@spacemenp.bsky.social If you saw that recently-listed sealed longbox of Recurring, wanted to share that it has found a good home. Note the sticker from the distributor indicating that BMG deleted the format after the first pressing.

A mid-1990 daytime Post-Modern MTV special tallying the Top 30 "alternative" videos of all time. Evidence of how cost-prohibitive videos had become (all major label acts), and the absurd gulf between "alternative" and "independent" artists during the Pre-Nirvana Utopia™ of the late 1980s.
