Habituation vs Sensitisation 🧠🐾 “They’ll get used to it”… but will they? Repeated exposure can decrease a response (habituation) — or make it stronger (sensitisation). Exposure alone isn’t a behaviour plan. 🩵 #TheMischiefMethod #DogBehaviour

2am Dog Questions 🌙🐾 “They can do it perfectly in the kitchen… so why not on a walk?” Dogs don’t automatically generalise learning. New environment = new challenge. Instead of “you know this!” try: “Have we practised this here?” 🩵🐾 #2amDogQuestions #TheMischiefMethod

🐾 2am Dog Questions: Does my dog know they’ve done something wrong? Instead of “Do they know they’ve done something wrong?” Try asking: “What is my dog noticing, predicting or responding to in this moment?” #2amdogquestions #dogbehaviour #dogs

One of the reasons I recommend the Be Kind Advocate Certification is that it focuses on supporting both animals and humans with compassion, empathy, and practical guidance. I’ve shared my review below if you’d like to learn more about the programme dognosticseducation.com/be-kind-advo...

🌿 Tiny Toxins: Paws Off Plants 🐾 Today’s tiny check: Peace Lily Those glossy green leaves and elegant white flowers? Beautiful. Snack? Not so much 😅 Peace lilies contain insoluble calcium oxalate crystals, which can irritate the mouth and digestive tract if chewed.

“The saddest sentence I hear from guardians is: ‘I wish people could see who they are at home.’ So if this is you, please know: You are not alone. And your dog is so much more than their hardest moments. 🐾🩵

Your dog cannot heal in overwhelm. Management is not about “giving in.” Management is not “letting your dog win.” Management is not laziness. Management helps reduce stress load on the nervous system. Behaviour makes more sense when we understand the nervous system. 🩵

It’s 2am. Your dog is whining. Whether your dog is: in a crate in your bedroom or downstairs Night-time whining isn’t about being “difficult.” It can be: 🚽 toilet needs 🌡 temperature 💤 difficulty settling 💙 feeling unsure or alone ⚡ a nervous system that hasn’t fully switched off

Why is my dog suddenly clingy? You move one step. Your dog moves one step. Sudden clinginess doesn’t always mean “spoiled” or “attention seeking.” Sometimes dogs stay close because they feel unsure, stressed, unwell, or simply safer near you. Independence grows from safety, not pressure.
