I need to take a lot more photos from my ephemera cabinets because I am running on fumes of photos I took months ago! Here's a Cass McCombs postcard advertising the debut EP - which really was as good as the blurbs implied. From 2003.

Ida show last night in the back room of a vintage shop. It was absolutely the most intimate show I've been to, and such an amazing contrast to their big Tsunami shared bill last year! Felt disrespectful to take photos in such a small room so I waited until we chatted after the show. ❤️

In 2002, the Exile Follies toured - it was Kristin Hersh, John Doe, and Grant Lee Phillips (who for some reason got totally shafted on the ticket stub). They played separate sets and collaborative sets and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. $15! God, I miss Maxwells.

Hard to photograph, but here's a shopping bag for Learn to Sing Like a Star by Kristin Hersh - I can't guess where I shopped that this was the bag. I was living in Portland OR at the time this record came out, and I think KH was living there at the same time - I saw her SO much that year.

Today's music ephemera: an Edward Ka-Spel 8 track tape, "A Pleasure Cruise Through 9 Dimensions," edition of 15 (ours is number 7). Beta-lactam Ring Records, 2011. I had an 8-track player in the 90s, but I don't think I still had one in 2011, so this has likely never been played, which is sad!

Today we have Xiu Xiu's "More hot than sad" hot sauce by Soothsayer (Chicago). Possibly the best name for a hot sauce ever. I actually bought 2 bottles of this when it came out, one for the archives (this one, bottle 168 of batch 1) and another bottle (half empty in my pantry. Verdict: delicious).

Ok, since The Quietus posted an old interview with Lush today, how about a ticket stub from when I saw them at Fast Lane in Asbury Park NJ, 1994? This was my 2nd Lush show - the first had been at the Ritz in NYC in 1992. Fast Lane was a helluva venue, and Lush were very loud. This show was SO good.

Tarnation surprised me as a band. I didn't get them at first - too country in the 90s for me. But within a year, I found myself craving them and their sound (especially on Gentle Creatures, although now Mirador stands out as a masterpiece to me). These are mini-promo-postcards with the 4ad artwork!

Early 2000s double-sided advertisement postcard from 4ad (interesting to give Cass McCombs a full side and split the other side between the arguably much-bigger bands!)
Ad for Cass McCombs the debut album on 4adtop half of the postcard is for Blonde Redhead's Misery is a Butterfly, and the bottom half is for the Mountain Goats We Shall All Be Healed
