The Certificate of Embodied Production was designed with this ontological distinction at its core. We certify sound recordings that avoid the use of grid correction, pitch correction, and AI, because how music is made shapes how we live together.

Art education is the education of feeling, and a society that neglects it gives itself up to formless emotion. Bad art is the corruption of feeling. This is a large factor in the irrationalism that dictators and demagogues exploit. - Susanne K Langer

Voluntary track labeling cannot function as a credible public trust system. It asks the parties using generative AI to disclose it themselves, while providing no independent verification or consistent standard for determining whether a recording contains gen AI wholly or in part.

Suno is not a tool of creative democratization, that is it does not provide access to music creation. It is a machine for monetizing a culture that wants the feeling of creation without the risk of becoming capable of creating.

Demi Moore at the Cannes Film Festival argued that resisting Al is a "losing battle" & while Al is useful, it can never replace art that comes from the human soul. Moore seems to miss the point. AI does not need to replace the soul. It only needs to replace the artist’s function in the marketplace.
Screenshot of a Reuters social media post showing Demi Moore speaking at a Cannes Film Festival press event. The post headline reads “Moore: AI cannot replace art.” The summary says she argued that resisting AI is a “losing battle,” urged the film industry to find ways to work with it, and said AI can be useful but cannot replace art that comes from the human soul.

Gridification does not negate the listener’s response. It replaces the sonorous image of lived time with the visual abstraction of the grid, denying music its epistemic function. Learn more about the crisis of gridification: www.musicalform.org/research/gri...

Calling Gen AI a tool is a category error. A lens extends sight. A hammer extends the hand. A guitar extends something deeper: it makes your internal felt time objective and shareable. It is the means through which the temporal shape of your experience becomes knowable to others.

What Suno generates is not music. This is a category claim. Music is the objectification of lived time. The generative high-dimensional vector space that produces these outputs does not exist in time. There is nothing being objectified because there is no time inside the system to objectify.

This gets very close to the philosophical basis of the Certificate of Embodied Production. When simulation becomes the norm, our capacity to hear difference as a space of coordination weakens. In music, that happens when human expression is treated as error in need of correction.
