I feel the pain on both sides, receiving 100s on PRs that you can't merge and working with AI to fix tons on bugs on a forked OSS project repo that you can't contribute back. Definitely, the PR contribution model is clearly broken with AI.

I have not look at a single line of code for months. I have epics with 80 issues that are generated, reviewed and merged overnight. Previous planing, design and a good harness are key. If you review the lines of code instead of doing black box testing you won't be able to scale AI.

I would like to think I am not an ignorant, but my latest experience with IA latelly has been 🤯 I am not the only one btw, I fully agree with DHH about the fact that writing code by hand has ended. That doesn't mean that the whole of our profession is over. the-decoder.com/ruby-on-rail...

Ruby on Rails creator DHH says he's done writing code by hand
David Heinemeier Hansson, creator of Ruby on Rails, has quit writing code by hand after 25 years. He says he hasn't typed a single line since March 2026. "English is a better programming language than...

It is more convoluted than that. Why use OSS if you can ask claude/codex to rewrite it from scratch?

do you remember when we were young and agile didn't exist? there were two differeintiated roles in the industry, analist (or siftware designer) and programmers. Prigrammwrs were the entry point in the industry and a step to climb before becoming an analist and get a raise..

but if you pair/control-by-ssh the host codex cli doesn't stop if you turn off the controller phone/pc. In fact, you can actually quit the codex cli with exit & background and just attach to the running session later with codex agents.

yes, but you shouldn't trust it blindly. It is easier to discuss and review a (let's say) 10 page doc of design/architecture written in natural language than a 10K lines PR. And you will actually learn from the process a lot.

I mean is that despite having them flaws, LLMs are incredibly powerful. They write better code than me at my prime They can definitively spot subtle bugs that I would overlook or find security flaws There is a lot of middle ground between doing full agentic spec driven development and not using AI

Sergio Garcia Murillo @murillo2000.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
I was adding a new dimension, I definitively agree on your comment. It is not doing one vs another, it is doing both.

Sergio Garcia Murillo @murillo2000.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
Vibe code is a pattern for disaster beyond some non-complex crud like product/services. For more complex systems you just can drop LLMs in the mix and just walk away. But depending on each one particular scenario, LLMs can provide awesome results if used correctly

Sergio Garcia Murillo @murillo2000.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
+100 Also, you need to do a lot of meta-AI work, doing A/B tests between different models and hardness. Not all models behave the same or need the same wards, they all have flaws and bias and misbehavior patterns. Even from just one version to another of the same model family they change a looot

argg.. don't remind me about that, one of the things I have been constantly fighting for at my companies is to have a strong QA team (and failed)

Sergio Garcia Murillo @murillo2000.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
I have yet not used AI for anything that I cared long term, so I can throw it away at any point of time and just learn from the mistakes. I am also worried of companies using it without any proper ward rails, heavy testing and lots of engeneering

Sergio Garcia Murillo @murillo2000.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
I was just describing what I am seeing or the obvious consequences of AI coding (I think we are moving far beyond vibe coding), I am not sure neither if we are heading for disaster. But if anyone decides to adopt AI, it definitively needs to change theway of working and understand what's happening
110
Sergio Garcia Murillo @murillo2000.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
There is no way you can review LLM produced PRs, it is already a too late step for humans to step in. You have to focus on guards, design and black box testing, code is AI land now 🙈 (Not saying it is good or bad, just what we are evolving too)

On a personal note, I have unintentionally become a kind of researcher, with lots of experiments, A/B tests, validation, etc.. I have also start studying back linear algebra and all my lost maths, I have never been more intellectually challenged in decades..

Definetively, using LLMs will make you a worse programmer. It would take me quite some warm up and stretchingto recover the muscle memory it requires. On the other hand, you can become a better designer/architect as you lower the feedback cycle from ideas to implementation. So it is a trade off.

the math is always the same, how mu h do invest and how much is the RoI. It doesn't matter if it is human labor or AI. If you can't afford a x2 budget, it doesn't matter if you hire an extra dev or use AI. The bottleneck now is not what you can build, but what you can sell.
