Sometimes the flu turns into maker time. One of our members spent his sick days modding his 3D printer to hold a pen and writing custom plotter software, with help from one of the latest AI models. It has presets for paper games and, of course, proper Bavarian language support. Priorities.

One of our members supports theatre projects with custom technical gadgets. This unusual-looking device recently received an update: it is a remote-controlled vehicle equipped with moving-head LED lights for creating special effects.

One of our member build a small turret orchestra inspired by Portal 2. Each turret is driven by a solenoid switched through a solid state relay. A Pi plays a MIDI file and the original audio at the same time, triggering each turret based on its assigned note.

One of our members built a 3D printed Battle/Death Racer. If you haven't heard of them: Death Racers are small motorized vehicles where the goal is to knock the hat off the other rider's figure. Now he just needs a few more makers to build their own so the battles can finally begin.

We got a new table saw and had the chance to test its additional safety feature, which helps prevent injuries from contact with body parts. No wiener was seriously harmed in this experiment! We hope to integrate the saw into our current setup soon.

The last stained glass workshop brought another round of impressive results, with participants creating beautiful pieces despite having no prior experience in glass art. Expanding the workshop capacity worked out really well, allowing more people to get hands-on time and complete their own projects.

Two members rescued a lonely bike from the trash. Since both wanted to learn more about bike repair, they went all in: completely disassembled it, cleaned and oiled all the important parts, repainted the frame and put it all back together. The result is a nicely refreshed retro bike.

Recently, we helped out our neighbors from the Spectrum Maker Space. They had sourced a special rubber material to laser-cut a custom stamp, with the housing to be 3D printed on top of that. The result is really nice and we are thinking now to make also custom stamps with our own Logo.

A member brought pre-grown tomatoes to the lab today, delivered by bike trailer. The mobile mini greenhouse, built from euro boxes and acrylic, fit right onto the carrier. The tomatoes are now planted in our raised beds in front of the workshop.

Finally, we got a decent disc and belt sander. A few members had been wanting this for a while, and after a member poll the community decided to get one. We went for a model with a big motor so it has enough power for typical sanding use cases.

Last week, one of our members ran an electronics workshop at the Uferlos Festival in Freising, where participants built their own small synthesizers. To make room for more seats, we lent out some of our soldering stations. We are now hoping to bring the same workshop to the Munich Maker Lab.

Around Christmas, the Munich Maker Lab received a generous donation of electronic parts, including a box full of motors, rotors and battery shields. One of our members has now turned some of it into a small laser-cut DIY kit. More parts will be cut soon, so we can offer the kit at events.

One of our members upgraded their 3D printer lighting with a WLED-powered LED strip on an ESP32-C3, powered via a buck converter from the printer's own supply. The highlight: an automatic progress bar animation every 30 seconds while printing. Logic runs in Node-RED, integrated with Home Assistant.
