That can definitely be the case. Especially for people in their early twenties and late teens, it's super common for people to still be working out big parts of their personality. I.e. there is a lot to learn in these stages. I'm curious, do you have an example where someone ignored what is around?

i dont speak with authority on this, but i think it feels easy to recede into your own space and avoid the outside world, but i agree with you that that doesn't seem very sustainable. I generally think consideration for others doesn't take traditional forms in many contemporary contexts.

Yeah, that overthinking part resonates with me. I learned awhile ago that I prefer to feel wrong than to do nothing, but that has its downsides too. I guess, to me, its about balance. Doing nothing is sometimes a good choice, and sometimes it isn't. Either way, I see that decision as unavoidable

I think that "fake it till you make it" works in the same way walking into a place pretending you're supposed to be there works. It works, but I think of it more like a tool than a strategy in and of itself. I think it can substitute for confidence in a pinch, it gives some flexibility.
