And throughout the series we’ve seen Riku’s default way of thinking lowly of himself in regards to situations related to helping Sora, but it’s cemented in both the DLC & MelMem when he never even assumes he could be a key player in getting Sora back. He doesn’t see himself worthy, not like Kairi.

Now back to the bright light from the beginning… As Kairi narrates her letter, the light flares to it’s fullest at the mention of Sora’s name. And what I’m saying next is pure speculation but the creative decision honestly reminded me a lot of the “Riku is the light” theory.

Just as narrated, Lea is caught staring at Kairi numerous times in his attempt to remember what, or rather who, he forgot. He is shown distracted and even distraught. He is also described by Kairi as someone who’s deeply apologetic & that ‘all he ever wanted was to help his friend’.

It’s this scene where Kairi writes a letter ‘for Sora’. She mentions how Merlin took her & Lea to a ‘place where time does not pass’ (aka passes differently) 👀… Note that as she narrates, the light gets brighter & brighter. I will mention how this is relevant in a sec but back to the text.
