I want to thank everyone that has supported me - especially my wife, my family, and followers. There's absolutely no way I could have ever done this without you. I'll always be grateful for being given the chance to have my dream job. The chance to create meaning, hope, and happiness.

For years I wanted to do this. For years I kicked the can. But finally, I've put together a complete guide for anyone wanting to learn about their family history outside of traditional, boring Genealogy.

The part where Carney mouthed the word 'never', to be honest, tickled me pink.

After the press conference, both leaders left for a private lunch before ending the visit. The full picture of how this meeting will set the tone going forward is yet to be seen, but I'm optimistic that this was a step in the right direction.

Overall, I think the meeting went very well. Regardless of political leanings, I think it's very fair to say that Carney handled it professionally with the conduct expected of the Prime Minister. He didn't back down in his defence of Canada and spoke concisely, clearly, and directly.

8 ) Trump completely pivoted from his aggressive narrative, striking a friendly tone, and at times was even respectful to Carney (if not respectful to facts).

7) Prime Minister Carney continued to display the sort of conduct that got him elected. He was calm, composed, fair, and firm. He didn't accept any infringements on Canadian sovereignty in comments made by Trump and handled the whole meeting very well.

6) Trump seemed to believe that Alex Ovechkin, a Russian NHL player, is Canadian.

5) When asked if there was anything Prime Minister Carney could do to lift US tariffs, Trump said “No. Just the way it is.”

Mugsy Margarit @mugsymargarit.bsky.social · 06/05/2025
4) When asked about CUSMA, Trump said “It’s fine. It’s there. It’s good. We use it for certain things.” Carney, not one to mince words, turned to Trump and said “Part of the way you’ve conducted these tariffs has taken advantage of existing aspects of CUSMA. So it’s going to have to change.”

3) Trump acknowledged that there's almost no interest in Canada for joining the U.S. “It takes two to tango. We’re not going to be discussing that unless someone wants to. Over time, we’ll see what happens.”

2) Trump changed his messaging, and even praised Carney, saying “Canada chose a very talented person, a good person. You ran a really great race … I watched the debate. I have a lot of respect for this man. We’re going to be friends with Canada.… Canada’s a very special place to me.… I love Canada.”

Carney quickly replied that in real estate, there “are some places that are never for sale.” When Trump replied by saying 'never say never', Carney silently mouthed the word 'never' three time while looking at Trump.

1) Trump maintained his position that Canada should become the 51st state by saying that "as a real estate developer, when he sees the map without the border he thinks, “That’s the way it was meant to be.”

I have real hope that we can do this - that we can heal this country and forge our own way in this world. But we can only do it together. Our greatest strength is, and always has been, our unwavering ability to come together at the darkest hours, and fight like hell to drive it back.

None of this will be easy. At all. There's a lot of work to do. But we have a real chance here to redefine and reaffirm just what makes us special. For the first time in my lifetime, we have a chance to be a leader, and not the led.

They seek to drive wedges between us and make us forget the lessons we learned from our grandparents. Lessons they learned with blood, sweat, and hardship.

But know this - regardless of who you're voting for, there is an undeniable fact that there are those in this country that are trying to exploit the challenges we are all facing for their own personal and political gain.

That really stirred something in me. I think we have a once in a generation opportunity here to come together and reaffirm all the things that make this country great. To settle our differences, understand each other's perspectives, and be an agent of real, positive change.

In my eyes, we've become the spearhead of Democracy. And to be perfectly honest, I think it was a role we have always been destined to have. Yesterday, Prime Minister Carney said that Canada is ready to lead a coalition of countries that believe in free trade and global cooperation.

What I do know is that there is absolutely nothing we can't accomplish when we come together, as Canadians. In the last few months, I've been so damn proud to see my fellow Canadians pull together to stand up to the most powerful nation the world has every seen, without blinking.

But I also feel that somewhere in the past 10 years, we lost our way. I can't explain why, or how it happened. It's easy to blame Trump, or Trudeau, or woke this or that. It really doesn't matter anymore, anyways.

I think Newfie should not only be recognized as our third national language, but also taught in school. I know that it's hard to see eye to eye with people from Vancouver on the environment, until you go there and see what they're trying to protect.

So, I understand when Albertans and Francophones say they feel like the odd one out. I get it when Ontarians say things are so hectic there that it's hard to see past what's going on outside the chaos around you.

I'm the product of immigrants. My grandpa ate tomato sandwiches every day and worked countless overtime hours so that his children could live the life he could only dream of. My other grandfather, and his brothers, signed up to beat the bratwurst out of Germany and protect everything he held dear.

My favourite beer is Green Diesel. My favourite team is the Maple Leafs. I think Crown Royal makes Jack Daniels look like a joke. I love sitting around a campfire getting eaten alive by mosquitos. Hawkins cheezies are the closest I've come to paradise.

I've moved thousands of kilometers to live and work in 4 provinces. I've worked on oil rigs outside in -40, mountain stone quarries in the pouring rain, and lumber mills with a mouth full of sawdust. I've met so many people across Canada that I have trouble sometimes remembering who I met where.

I want to start by saying I'm not an expert. I don't have a PhD in Sociology or Political Science. I'm not a Rhodes scholar. I don't have a podcast. This is coming from a 40-year-old, dad bod having, fart joke loving, Chandler doppelganger.
