Slim chance I know, but can anyone help me find Dad's old trike please? According to DVLA it's still on the road. Would be fantastic to get in touch with the owner #motosky

Yes, we did one together at Boastie's Champions School. I've done one at the Royal Enfield too. And I did actually "race" a round of Short Track back in 2006.

Identical powertrain, battery, charging etc - just differ in wheels and tyres: DM has mad 19-inchers with weird-sized dirt track tubber; Alpinista has 17in sports touring tyres in normal 120 / 180 sizes. Suspension feels pusher on this than the DM too, much nicer ride. So I prefer this one.

It looks smart, I like the wacky front end, and it sounds like they're taking a sensible approach. I hear the FF project lead has just left the company though, which is odd timing to happen right before it gets launched...

There's no rapid charging on the S2 series (yet). Just AC charging at a max rate of about 5kW. I'll get excited for solid state when they actually arrive, in production form, at a decent price. They've been "just a few years away" since 2010.

Had a spare hour on my day off so ripped through a charge on the LiveWire S2 Alpinista. Huge fun to ride - instant whoomph everywhere, 194lbft of torque and a compact, engaging chassis. And the wheelies... oh the wheelies. Here for a good time, not a long time: 95% to 5% rinsed in just 40 miles...

Demo Mode is where your new KTM is delivered with all its optional electronic extras (quickshifter, Track mode etc) turned on. After 932 miles they switch off, then you choose whether you want to pay for them. Many folk hate it. Some suggested it was a cause of KTM's financial problems. It wasn't.

Martin Fitz-Gibbons @mufga.bsky.social · 19/10/2025
Exactly. It's plausible they handled camshafts so badly (in part) due to their ongoing financial problems.
120
Martin Fitz-Gibbons @mufga.bsky.social · 19/10/2025
Yes. But 2, 5, 10 years from now there will be only be tall tales told about how failed camshafts and charging extra for electronics and buying MV were what sunk KTM, and the truth - greed and overproduction and denying reality - will be long forgotten.

Martin Fitz-Gibbons @mufga.bsky.social · 19/10/2025
Fascinating. My highlight: "I would say there were three types of greed... operational greed... strategic greed... [and] governance greed." No mention of cams. No mention of MV. No mention of Demo Mode. History and folklore will tell a different story, but this is what led to KTM's insolvency.

A #wheeliewednesday from 17 years ago this week on Triumph's Speed Triple 1050. What a tool for the job. That original 1050 was such a willing wheelie bike, with its millpond-flat torque curve and rearward weight bias. Big, butch, brawny, beefy and British. Wonder how the new 1200 RS compares…

Awoke my poor old Suzuki SV650S from hibernation yesterday and gatecrashed an MCN event (🙏) to see whether it (and I) could still wally about on one wheel. Wheelies seem a redundant skill, like being able to hunt a woolly mammoth or repair a Betamax. But the world would be far duller without them.

Riders of our generation? We've moved beyond rejection, are on our way towards curiosity, but still short of unconditional acceptance. Haven't had a Chinese-branded bike on a FEC tour yet, but it's only a matter of time.
