I read How Great Ideas Happen by George Newman - a 2026 S&S publication and this is from the book. The retail Aust price was $42 for a paperback. Surely they could hire a real artist. OR leave them out; they added nothing to the book.

AN AI image of what are meant to be archaeologists. They are using round kitchen strainers with very fine mesh and two handles in different, and odd places. Neither of them has a digging tool of any kind.
A basket of what looks like potatoes is at their side.

I took my kids to see Marcus Graham perform Pericles at the Sydney Opera house. When it finished, kid 2, who was about 11, leapt out of their seat and shouted, 'that was fucking awesome, Mum!'

Reading the Silver Book by Olivia Lang about Fellini, Danilo Donati, and Pasolini. "Fascism never really went away, it just changed form, went underground, periodically exploding back into day light."

There is no such thing as the past, Pasolini likes to say. It constantly invades the present. Danilo believes this is true. He knows what happened in Salo isn’t over. He knows how easily it could return. Fascism never really went away, it just changed form, went underground, periodically exploding back into the daylight. If you believe Pasolini, if you read the articles he’s been publishing in Corriere, the signs are everywhere. The bombing in Milan in 1969, the attempted coup in 1970, the bombing in Brescia last May, only twenty miles from Salo: all these things signify that fascism is still alive, still straining at the leash. But Danilo knows, too with the same kind of sideways seeing, that his friend is in hell, that he is totally alone, and that the film is coming from this desperate place, this place of desolation. If it’s hard to watch, how much harder to live. Make the film, he thinks to himself. Make it like an exorcism. Then let’s see where we are.

Trump gets upset if a performer cancels their concert, but it doesn't matter if HE cancels their performances.

A central charge of the investigation is that the Kennedy Center is providing preferential access and financial benefits to organisations connected to the Trump administration and its allies. According to a contract, Grenell granted world football’s governing body, Fifa, free and exclusive use of the entire Kennedy Center campus from 24 November to 12 December for the World Cup draw.

Estimates provided by Whitehouse show this will cost the Center $5,038,444 in losses from direct rental fees, programming rescheduling, labour, food and beverage and other services. Multiple events were cancelled or rescheduled to accommodate Fifa.

second part... 'I think it's extremely important because it's absurd. You don't base your fucking international policy on a video game series, especially a series that could as easily be titled "Don't Fucking Do This If You Don't Want To Kill The Entire Fucking World Including Yourself." '

I wouldn't bet my life savings on this having ultimately been the Muskrat's idea, but I'd be willing to bet a small sum. He is exactly the kind of idiot who looks at the Fallout Bible and sees a roadmap rather than a cautionary tale.

I think it's extremely important because it's absurd. You don't base your fucking international policy on a video game series, especially a series that could as easily be titled "Don't Fucking Do This If You Don't Want To Kill The Entire Fucking World Including Yourself." I think as we lobby our representatives to publicly refuse to fund this lunacy we need to actually lean on this. Discredit it by pointing out where it came from, loudly and repeatedly. Make it such a topic of mockery that no Republican wants to be associated with it.

We've literally already had six games and a TV series to tell us how this turns out. This is an open-book test and we can't afford to fail it--not for the people of Canada, not for the entire rest of the world. Demand your representatives make a public commitment to the sovereignty of Canada NOW.

tumblr theory: they want to annex Canada because it is what happens in the Fallout game www.tumblr.com/prismatic-be...

Tumblr post from prismatic-bell
There is something not noted here that I think is extremely important. It's going to sound abso-fucking-lutely absurd, and I realize that. We're living in that kind of timeline, unfortunately.

In the Fallout universe, one of the first things the US did that created the inevitable trainwreck with China was--guess what--annexing Canada for its resources. In fact this action is considered iconic in the games, with the first few minutes of the first game showing a Canadian soldier on his knees being executed by a shot to the back of the head while the voiceover tells you he was "resisting." Annexing Canada, to anyone sane playing the game, was a sign of just how repulsive the US had become (and the Fallout US makes the real US look sane).

Why is this important, in spite of being a video game?

Because Elon Musk is a gamer.

I wouldn't bet my life savings on this having ultimately been the Muskrat's idea, but I'd be willing to bet a small sum. He is exactly the kind of idiot who looks at the Fallout Bible and sees a roadmap rather than a cautionary tale.

it dispenses with due process - you know like proving the allegation is true -

the goal of the new legislation is to dispense with the due process (incl the need for evidence) afforded under law to targeted groups, empowering a single US official to act as prosecutor, judge, jury & executioner of US orgs whose viewpoints that official disagrees with.
