More patches made for Wasteland. Some for the quest and others for barter. The quest ones went quick but making new stencils for the quest one and the new ones for the barter took longer than I thought and the later it got, the more of a perfectionist I came.

Patches made of recycled denim, they read, "Quis Leget Haec?" which translates from Latin as, "Who will read this?"

Black Canvas Patches, half of which read "Elder Emo" and the other half read, "Emo Age" which with the accent marks means Elder Emo in Quebecois French.

It was my buddy Fred's birthday today. He's into vintage clothes, so are his friends. So I knew better to dress up than not. But I got a bad sunburn around my neck today, so I wore shirt with a mandarin collar. Plus, my ankh rosary for a fun accent. Several people asked if I was a priest.

Last year while I partially distressed some clothes for Wasteland, I never got the dirt level I wanted. One trip to the art supply store later and now I've dirtied some clothes with a variety of watered down acrylic fabric paints to give them old blood, sweat, and dirt stains.

A pair of blue linen slacks that have been turned into cut off shorts and are now distressed and dirty looking.

Thos afternoon I decided to get a jump on making patches for Wasteland. Made the stencil, then it took a couple before I got the hang of it. Now I have about 40, which is either plenty for barter/gifts or a good start for what else I have planned.

40 or so patches of blue linen spread across cardboard boxes to dry so they don't stain the floor beneath. A black leather ottoman, a part of my EZ Up tent, and a box of liquor bottles are visible at the edges of the frame.

Did some Wasteland cocktail prepping today and each of the drinks I tested was a rousing success. Only the last one needed tweaking from my initial plan and after the second pass it was where I wanted it.

The Moose Tracks.

A cloudy brown liquid that looks unappetizing in a shot glass.

It's 2:1:1 Vanilla Vodka, Chocolate Liqueur, and Skrewball Peanut butter whiskey. It tastes like moose tracks ice cream.

The Mutfruit Blossom.

A warm clear red liquid sitting in a shot glass.

This is a simple jack rose variant at 3:1:1/2:1/2. It's Applejack, lemon juice, Grenadine, and creme de mure.

The Arizona Amazon.

This one was a little tricky and needed a second pass to bring out the rosewater. It's 3:2:2:1 Mezcal, Licor 43, Lime, and Rosewater.

The evening ended with Fannie Sinclair doing her Rapunzel act. Of course, the real trick at a Fannietastic show is she dances to whatever song the audience picks via tipped money. This month was Dolly Parton's "9 to 5" tied with "All I Do is Win" by DJ Khaled. Best way to spend a Sunday night.

Every single Lola La Minx act is unhinged. I thought I was ready for what she could do as a cow. The grass flogging instrument, the cheese slices with her name on them, even the udder. Then she took the tassels off and started squirting water. Then she poured milk into a glass from one. Genius

After the intermission is where it gets wild. Twyla Noir doing "tequila mockingbird." She took a glass out from her buttcheeks, a bottle of tequila from her bra, salt from her panties, and then ended by squeezing her lime wedge bra which squirted liquid down into the cup. Astounding

This act seemed odd until you realized that Strawberry Shortcummings is dressed as Lincoln, the cardboard car is meant is a Lincoln, and then she's Lincoln Park-ing... I was laughing so hard by that point, then the song actually switched to Linken Park and she stripped down to reveal penny pasties.

The second was from Burning Ember and I hope you can-can see the vision. The sprinting on stage was funny enough but they came out into the crowd at one point and did a fun bit with a friend where they tied two cans together and pretended they were a can phone. Also, so many splits and high kicks.

There are many side characters/supporting players in a given Fannietastic show. While Camera Dan and a number of photographers are regulars, she also has people who sketch the show (this month is 'Art-starion') and a DJ. Lusty Levi was DJing this month and had a fun picture for his pun contribution

My favorite Sunday night in any given month is one where my friend Fannie Sinclair puts on an absurd burlesque show in West Hollywood. This month's show was titled, "Punny Girl." Fannie came out as a Dad (Joke). Her big belly is actually a "fannie pack."

I just snapped this photo of such a warning at a Toronto area airport and found myself wondering if it was meant for me or more for airport staff who presumably get some emails and sit through a video or seminar on human trafficking at some point. It's an interesting, and deeply upsetting, subject.

An anti human trafficking PSA on the back door of a steel bathroom stall in both English and French from a Canadian organization called "Not in my City."

It encourages the reader to know the signs of human trafficking without listing them and then says help is available if your or someone you know has been trafficked. It provides a number and website for the organization.

A true relief that Nithya has overtaken the villain of MTV's "The Hills" and her lead will presumably widen as the remaining ballots are counted. I wish Mr. Pratt well in his promised self-imposed exile from California. I doubt he'll go, SoCal Republicans rarely follow through on that "threat."

Ran six miles down to Smorgasburg this morning at a slow but steady pace. Honestly a good run, especially since there was delicious food at the end.

As May draws to a close, so does Highland Park Brewery's Hamburger Month. Each week a different collaboration with another Los Angeles bar or restaurant. My definitive ranking: 1) Philippe The Original French Dip Burger 2) Oinkster Salpicao Burger 3) Thunderbolt Burger 4) Heavy Handed HPB Burger

The French Dip Burger with fries, a cup of au jus, and dipping cups of ketchup and ranch for the fries.

The Burger is topped with Swiss cheese, roast beef, Philippe's Hot Mustard, grilled onions, and pickles. All with a pickle spear and yellow chili peppers on the side.

The Oinkster Salpicao Burger held in my hand with a side of fries below.

The Burger has provolone, Salpicao Sauce (a soy and garlic based sauce), garlic aioli, crispy garlic, and scallion salad.

A thick 5oz patty topped with pimento cheese, pickled green tomato, and a buttermilk sauce.

So last night, I'm on a nice five mile run down Sunset when I hear some salsa music and look around to immediately have my eyes assaulted by Spencer Pratt AI Slop. I slow down, watching his Slop Ad and discovered that somehow using AI is somewhere around the third or fourth worst aspect of it.

A Spencer Pratt campaign truck that plays a loop of AI Slop, in this moment it says "Spencer, Saca La Bassura" which translates as Spancer, takes out the trash" with the extra s in basura being a pun on Mayor Bass.

It also plays loud salsa music that I assume is also AI Generated Slop

It's a great space and if you're in North Hollywood, it's definitely worth a visit. The only shocking thing to me is that the bathroom only gets an 8/10. It's clean and it's cute and on brand but I just thought this place would have free menstrual products and would advertise events.

Finally made it to The Witch's Cottage in North Hollywood. It took over what used to be the Federal on Lankershim turning it into a coffee shop during the day and a restaurant at night with an event space upstairs. Charming place with fantastic pastries.

Tried for a 4.5 mile run today even though I was out late last night, just a miserable time but it took me right to Lasorted's for some pizza and the return of their visitor dog series with a Sonora Dog. Then walked to Highland Park Brewery for the Dugout Wizard, their seltzer but dyed blue.

A truly terrible selfie where I tried to convey just how exhausted and not into it I was at the end of my run.

An amusing corollary to this. It's definitely interesting to see divergence in rules interpretation and play style. Truly fascinating to imagine divergence in setting when a table is only interpreting them through rule books that were written to capture existing audiences.

A reply to a post in the r/StartrekRPG subreddit asking how seriously everyone treats Star Trek canon at their tables:

User 1: I'm a sinner here, I've never watched Star Trek. My main understanding of the setting is pretty much just from the RPG book itself and random pop culture references. I treat the lore veeeery loosely and not-canon. so. anything goes.

User 2: Are your players fans of the show? What drew you to this system? Just curious.

User 1: My players are also not fans of the show or anything. I just like the system (since I've also played other 2d20 games) and I like the setting as a general sci-fi setting. I just treat it as another cool sci-fi RPG game to play, regardless if it's tied to an IP or not. I do the same with Warhammer, my main connection with Warhammer lore is from the RPG books. I've also played the Buffy RPG without seeing the tv shows and played a bunch of John Carter 2d20 without seeing the movie or reading the novels.

It takes a good hour or so before the super serious runners give way to the party atmosphere of everyone else. It was hot and we gave away every snack, ice pop, water, and even a lot of the beer that we had on hand. The biggest surprise though was how much people used the sunscreen I brought.

It was shortly after the elite women passed us that the sun peeked over the buildings and started to heat things up, followed by the elite men and eventually the first costume sighting. The man in the bear costume finished in 3 hours and 15 minutes.

The Marathon starts at 6:30am with the first Athletes with Disabilities setting off, followed by the elite women at 6:40 and finally everyone else at 7am.

The first athlete to pass mile 8 was this person on a wheelchair bike. The sun was still hidden by the buildings and the street was otherwise empty.

The elite women's pace car, displaying a time of 44 minutes and 29 seconds meaning that the lead woman running is hitting a pace of about 5:30 per mile

GOOOOOOOOD MORNING, RUNNERS!!! I know most of you aren't even on Bluesky but I got a cheer station up and running at the Vista for the LA Marathon!!!
