Inequalities directly affect cancer survival rates in Europe. Last Friday, I was honoured to open DG SANTE's & HaDEA's webinar on tackling cancer inequalities, with #EU4Health projects showing how the #EUCancerPlan is making a difference on the ground. #EWAC2026
A group of approximately 18 people pose for a photo in a conference room at the European Commission. They are arranged in two rows — five seated at a panel table in the foreground and the rest standing behind. A large display screen behind them shows a colourful presentation slide reading "Are we reducing cancer inequalities in Europe? How Europe's Beating Cancer Plan is making a difference, 22 May 2026," alongside the EWAC (European Week Against Cancer) logo. A European Commission roll-up banner and an EU flag are visible on the right side of the image.Marc Tachelet, HADEA, speaking at a podium during the European Commission event "Are we reducing cancer inequalities in Europe?" on 22 May 2026, with the EU flag and a European Code Against Cancer banner visible in the background.Marc Tachelet and Nadia Elhaggagi seated in red auditorium chairs, listening attentively during a session at a European Commission event on cancer inequalities in Europe, May 2026.

Ever wonder what happens to clothes that never get sold? Around 4-9% of all textiles in Europe are destroyed before they even get the chance to be worn. With the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation, we’re simplifying the process for businesses to reduce this waste ⬇️
The image illustrates the lifecycle of a coat, showing the options after it is unsold. On the left, there is a coat labelled ‘unsold. A red downward arrow indicates that product is damaged or unsafe to be sold, leading to disposal, represented by a pile of damaged clothes. A green upward arrow shows that the coat can be resold, remanufactured, donated, or reused, resulting in 'new life’ represented by a pile of coats ready for sale. The European Union flag is in the bottom right corner.
