figured it out! Witchsky does appear to be using favicon.ico's for PDS icons just had to add a handle_path to my PDS's Caddyfile to return msx.gay's favicon when a request for pds.msx.gay/favicon.ico is made

something I've noticed about Witchsky are the PDSs with their own icons is this handled on Witchsky's end or the PDS's end? if it's the PDS, how would I set my own? pds.pub.moe as an example
