9/ We validate against independent implementations. Under declared settings, core algorithms and metrics agree exactly with their references; our scoped blastn path closely matches NCBI BLAST+. The Studio does not replace specialist tools at every scale.

8/ Our internal benchmarks show that the engine runs about 100-2,500× faster than our Python predecessor and that it is competitive with fast, native alignment libraries on representative real-world settings.

7/ The interface is built for exploration: change tokenization, scoring rules, gap penalties, or metric settings and see the result update in place. The curated "Showcase" and "Learn" modules turn canonical examples into editable demos.

6/ Most computations run locally in the browser through C++ compiled to WebAssembly. There is no software to install, and inputs stay on the user’s machine by default unless they explicitly choose remote search for blastn.

5/ A score is only as useful as the evidence behind it. Studio links results to alignments, edit paths, matched spans, metric statistics, search hits, seeds, and local homology alignments.

4/ We designed it as a kind of "Swiss Army knife" for sequence comparison and alignment, not to replace every specialized tool but to let users move across methods and domains on the same inputs.

3/ string2string Studio brings six families of algorithms & methods into one unifying interface: alignment, distance, similarity, search, generation metrics, and BLAST-style homology search. It works at character, word, token, line, and biological-residue levels.

2/ String comparison appears across NLP, biology, and the humanities: edit distance, sequence alignment, approximate search, generation metrics, manuscript comparison, and homology search. The methods are related, but alas, the tools are often scattered.

1/ Today, @jameszou.bsky.social, Professor Shieber, @jurafsky.bsky.social and I are releasing string2string Studio: an open-source, in-browser platform that brings alignment, comparison, search, and evaluation into one interactive, visual environment for strings and sequences.
